Hi Guys

I just got a P85 Ruger- looking for some pet loads, not insane but for plinking loads, and some for making power factor for IDPA
I have loaded 38, 357, 45ACP for a long time, never 9mm
Thanks
Dave

Hi..
I did load 9mm for some time and I adopted a practice of using Blue Dot for all loads for two reasons.
First is Blue Dot gave me a good accurate high performance load that was as good as any load I’ve shot.
Second and most important, since Blue Dot is very bulky and a max load will come all the way up to the top of the case, the bullet is seated on a firm cushion of powder. This prevents the bullets from ‘slipping’ back into the case when they are slammed up the loading ramp into the chamber. As you know this creates excessive chamber pressures.
Yes you use more powder per round than you would with say Bullseye, but not having to worry about the above problem is well worth the extra cost.

Why do they call it common sense, when it is so uncommon??

Hi
Well most all the loading manuals agree with charges pretty much but the loads I used was 8.0gr with 124/125gr jacketed and 8.5gr with 115gr jacketed bullets.
Good luck

I have used BD some but good old Unique is a very accurate powder in the 9mm especially w/ cast bullets. It also fills the case well. HP38, Universal & WST are also good w/ 115-125gr bullets.

Undertaker: The 9mm is a highpressure cartridge. For plinking, I use cast 122 flat nosed hard cast and 4.2 grain of HP 38 or 4 grains of Red Dot. Blue Dot, Bullsye, Unique are fine powders, but they can get dirty in my Walther P99. Enjoy

My pet load is 7 gr. HS-6 with any 115 gr. JHP. These go over the chrono graph at around 1150 fps. through my P89 or P-85 and are very accurate.

That speed and bullet is really close to the Winchester factory loads, and they work GREAT in my P85
Thanks very much

Try these loads:

115 gr. JHP with 5.1 gr. of Unique.

124 gr. XTP with 5.2 gr. of Unique.

147 gr. XTP with 4.3 gr. of Unique.

All are my 9mm accuracy loads. My favorite is the 124 gr. Hornady XTP load.

I like 4.8 gr of WW231 and 124 gr JHP's at 1.1" MOAL. The load is accurate and it functions flawlessly in my Combat Commander.

Hornady 147gr. XTP
3.5 grs. Universal Clays
FC or CCI Primer
1.115" OAL
FC Brass (no crimp, didn't bell case mouth)

This one averages under 1" at 25 yards from my Sig P226. That is for five 5-shot groups!

Excellent grouping, at 25 yards
Has anyone ever tried as well, IMR 700X ?
There is a guy at my club that says he uses it in 9mm. Its a dirty powder for revolver loads- I have used it in 38 special.

Shoot me!

I go into the "Big Box" and buy whatever "bulk" 9mm FMJ they're selling. It's federal arsenal govt. loads. More often then not I get 500 or 1000 rds cheap and they toss in an mil-surp ammo can.

9mm is hard to load and fussy. I don't even have dies -- but have loaded on other's presses.

That said, I have brass coming out my ears. Definition of a Gun Nut --

"Picks up brass for calibers he doesn't reload and/or guns he doesn't own."

No can do in Canada for that though- thats what sucks
I can drive to the states, and TRY and get ammo, but its illegal to buy unless you are a citizen- reloading is my real only inexpensive option- its about 11 dollars for 50 rounds of factory Winchester here

For a bullt in the 115-120 gn. weight range...I'm loading 3.8 gn. Bullseye. Mostly because I have a lot of it around, and that load groups well from my Hi-Power, and functions flawlessly. The Lyman book indicates something close to 1000 fps...don't know, never chrono'd it. As to making major...have no idea. Don't shoot that game.
Cheers,
G.

I like Winchester WSF for 9mm. 4.6 gr of it pushes 125 lead round nosed bullets to 1,070 fps and the 121 gr conical Lyman 356402 bullet to 1,126 fps. I taper crimp.

Ammo shoots well in CZ and SIG pistols and in 9mm AR-15s. I would not use a cast bullet in a gas operated gun.

I use 5.5 grs. of W231 and 115gr. Hornady HP/XTP bullets in all my 9mm pistols. I used to use Unique, but found W231 powder burns cleaner.

I have experimented with dozens of powders and bullets for 9mm.

Alliant says 5.7 gr Power Pistol 147 gr XTP, 1.14", 43kpsi, 1095 fps 4" barrel
http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipeDetail.asp...lid=1014&bulletid=23

I like my own +P+ load, Power Pistol 158 gr XTP JHP, 1.169", RP primed brass, Lee Factory crimp, resized loaded ammo falls into chamber without binding.
