Does anyone have information on loading the 8x57 js (.323) with this weight bullet?
I cannot find any published data on this "new" bullet from Woodliegh.... Specifically, with H4895 powder....

I replied to a similar question re 250grn out of a 3006 ( medium rifle forum)I have seen some of these recovered from buffulo and they were woodliegh projectiles.Expansion was limited as velocity was pretty low and I would predict similar preformance from the 8mm mauser.I dont think projectiles of this wieght in these standard calibers would offer any advantages over lighter faster controlled expansion projectiles.I must mention that woodliegh projectiles are fantastic performers in every other way.I use the 180grn in 3006 and it is very accurate and dynamite on sambar deer which are big and tough.

Thanks seanshooter,
Geoff at Woodleigh responded to an e-mail I sent about this. His recomendation was: 50gr. H-4350. He estimated that it should push it to 2300 ft/sec while keeping the pressure in a safe zone. I'll let you all know how it goes...

cashdds,
I contacted woodleigh for the load data just like you. Tested loads from 46gr to 53gr of H4350. I had 3" to 6" groups with the lighter loads. At 50gr vel. was 2250fps and 1". I settled on 52gr of H4350, Rem. cases, Fed210 primers for 2350fps and 1" groups at 100yds from a yugo 24/47 23.5" mil. barrel.

Its very empressive what that old cartridge can do.

BTW this is the rifle and load I keep at my cabin in AK.

Thanks Steve,

I hope to try mine this weekend. I loaded some to Geoff's specs at 50 grains.... I look foward to see what they do. I will work up some more with your recomendations..... THANKS!!!

You are right... the ol' 8mm is a really nice round. I have taken several Virginia whitetail deer with it and it has given me better results than my 30-06..... Problem is, most factory loads are 1. overpriced and 2. underpowered!!
European hunters swear by the ol'8. Its still very popular in their circles.... Hope I get my black bear this year....
