Whew! I am grinning like a fox eating eggs after seeing Nosler #5's load of 51 grains of Reloder 19 behind a 150 grain partition for 2830 fps through a 22 inch barrel! I have never used NPs in my Ruger M77 but intend to try them now. On paper, this appears to be a tremendous all-around load for a 7x57.

I don't have a chrony. Has anyone come close to that velocity, with hunting accuracy, in their 7x57?

Dogger:

Owning a chrony, the load does verify at that both in a Ruger 77 Mk2 and a Winchester Featherweight.

Good Old MANassas! Lived there as a kid. Back during the Centennial of the battle, from 1960 to 1963. That town sure has grown a lot. In 1962 its population was about 2,500, same as it had during the Civil War. What is it now, over half a million?

Have several relatives still there that sure got wealthy owing property as the town built up thru the years. Remember winning my first baseball bat in 1962 at a drawing at Dudley Martin Chevrolet. Think they had about 15 new cars on the lot in those days. Long before they were out on Sudley Hwy. Brings back good memories.

Seafire, thanks for the reply. Manassas proper has a population of only 35,000 or so, but you wouldn't know it as Prince William County is busting with people. You would not recognize Manassas any more, it is so grown. Sudley Road from the Battlefield to Manassas center, about 5 miles, is wall to wall stores and shops and over 20 traffic lights. I live on the southeast side of Manassas, off of Signal Hill. Seven years ago, Liberia Road was two lanes with a blinking red light to Signal Hill. Now it is a 4 lane road with high volumes of traffic, a Walmart, and a Home Depot, all where trees and fields used to be. In a couple more years I will feel the need to move west to the Shenandoah!

Dogger,

That is why I live in Grants Pass Oregon.

If you ever look it up on a map, it is in the SW part, on I 5, our road to civilization.

Our county is larger than Rhode Island, has a population of 45,000 or so. 75% of all land here is government owned, ( Forest Service, BLM or State). Surrounded by mountains.

Deer are a joke here, but besides that a lot of hunting opportunities. In August, will be antelope hunting on a special draw by Crater Lake National Park. Deer season is 6 weeks or so. Will be Elk hunting up near Crater Lake again in October for a week, then drew a left over tag for Elk in the Powers Unit, which is between here and the coast. Solid mountains between here and there.

Loading up ammo to go over to Montana to go shoot prairie dogs again at the first of August.

After all that, about all I'll have to go hunting with is out coyote calling I guess.

Yeah, don't miss MANassas much anymore. It was a good town in the early 1960s, but so were a lot of other places.

If you ever get the chance to head out this way, send me an email. If we can get you a tag, will take you out in the field with me. would be my pleasure.
