New to Loading and wanted to load the best long range .25 cal bullet for my .25-06. read that berger has the highest BC (.522) so I had to try them.Bought the 115gr.moly VLD. Not sure if I seated them to deep, I think there touching the lands, at least you can see the rifling on the bullet when you chamber it close the bolt and pull it out? Anyways I used 56gr. of H-1000 (avg. vel. 3050fps.), Remington cases And CCI br-2 primers shot 1.5 MOA @100 yds with gusting 10-20mph winds. I was hoping for better results but it could have been the Wind. I'm shooting A Factory Sako L-61R that shoots holes inside holes with Sierra 90 and 100 grainers. Anybody have any Recomindations on this Load Or Sierra #1628 100 gr.match kings
Try seating the bullet 10 to 15 thousands off the lands. Use a marks-a-lot on the bullet to tell when youre on the lands and when you just start off the lands. More times than not you have to give up one for the other, speed are accuracy, youre not going to get both normally. When your bullet touchs the lands this cause the pressure to go up. This is what a bench rest shooter does, they use light loads and push the bullet up the barrel. There not looking for expansion, theyre looking for one hole, i/e, accuracy. For hunting try Nosler, for paper use Serria. Good luck! jjdero
I use 57gr. N560 with the 115 gr Berger VLD and get 3400fps out of a 30" barrel. Peak strain measurements indicate a peak pressure of about 64000 psi. Have had some good groups with low velocity variation.
