I managed a .317 group of five at 100 yards using 63 grains of H4831SC and the 178-grain Hornady A-Max, garden variety Winchester LRM primers, bagged Winchester brass and common RCBS dies (not the fancy ones). I use an RCBS Rockchucker press, I throw my charges with a Lee Perfect Powder Measure and weigh them to as close to exact as I can get on an RCBS Rangemaster 750 scale. I trim the cases to length with a Lee case trimmer and chamfer the flash hole with an RCBS flash hole tool. I set the bullet .020 inches off the lands in my Krieger barrel with its SAAMI chamber. I shoot from a sandbag. I have a Sinclair machine rest (the fancy, $350, windage top one) , but the old bag seems to work better...

What kind of velocity are you getting with 63 grains of H4831sc? Seems a little light. And do you notice very much fouling with this powder?

I too wonder what kind of velocity you are getting with only 63 grains of H4831sc.

I get 2850fps with 70 grains of H4831sc and 180 grain Nosler Acurbonds. I prefer RL-19 and WXR with 180 grain bullets..........3000fps and sub-MOAgroups are no problem.

I know you guys think its expensive, but VV-N160 works well in the 300WSM, well it worked well in mine. you should pick up a container of it and try it out for yourselves. gave great velocity and accuracy
