I am about to start loading some of those gamekings, and was wondering what powder folks were using, how far off the lands you have your bullets seated, etc...

I've been using 175 gr. Gamekinds for some time in a Magnum Research Mountain Eagle. Since it's a hunting rifle so I can't tell ya how far off the lands I'm at. I load for the longest O.A.L. that will fit the magazine without problems. I'm using H4831sc. When I found this load the manual stated 61 or 62 grains as a max load. I'm at work so I can't look it up! Anyway I got the best accuracy with 60.0 grains. It shoots 0.625" 5 shot groups all day long. I got a new manual that now claims that my 60 grain load is now 2 grains over max! I contacted Hogdon to find out if they changed the powder or were their lawyers involved. I was told the powder hasn't changed. The Hogdon site states 58.0 grains of H4831 as max for a Nosler Partition. SO... I would suggest to start as usual with the min. and work up until you either hit the suggested max or start seeing signs of high pressure. Also, I'm using a standard Federal Match primer instead of the magnum primer. You may also want to invest in some Norma brass. I was using Winchester brass and having to neck turn the brass to get the run out down to varmint levels. What a pain in the Butt! Benchrest brass prep for a big game rifle! After all the prep and neck turning I was getting maybe 3 loadings before the brass became questionable. After buying the Norma brass I quit neck turning and I've loaded these about 6 times and they still look and measure like new brass. Good luck I can't decide if I shoot to load, or load to shoot! The line between the two is very thin!

I use them, as well as the Nosler Partition 175-grain, in my Ruger No 1B 7mm Rem. Mag. (Noslers for elk, moose, big bears, Sierras for deer & black bear). My loads use either RE 22 or IMR 7828, and I seat my bullets 1 mm from touching the rifling for either bullet. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

10 to 20 thousandths off the lands for Match Kings in my Winchester and Remington rifle. I used to shoot 130gr Match Kings in my Winchester 7mm Mag. Load them to MAX and killed a lot of deer. I don't see using a heavy bullet when a light one will shoot faster, flatter and kill like lightning. Since I have bought a 300 Win Mag and am going to use the 150gr Sierra Match Kings. My friend has killed every deer he has shot at for years with this bullet and a Max charge of 4831. Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

I used to shoot them often with 78g of H870. Got right at 3000fps with my 26" barrel. Not sure what to replace that with... may try Retumbo next. Good luck, Dan

I load the 175 game Kings with 58.5 grains H4831 or 76.8 grains of H870 in my Comercial Mauser in 7 MM Rem Mag it's a 1963 . Just every once in a while it will punch a grouping of 5 ragged holes. It's a wonderful rifle especially with the Ziess optics . In my humble opinion there is NO substitute for great optics.

I load for my Brother in law, who was a big fan of the 120 grain - faster than light concept. Loaded up some 175s and said just give them a try. He's now a convert and asks for nothing else. Limiting factor on length is the magazine for most applications would be my guess. Reloader 22 my powder of choice, RL25 works but 22 is better.

I shot 160 SGKs for years. About 77-78 grains of 870. Very accurate. Killed a ton of mule deer, antelope with it. Haven't tried the 175's but I like the GK bullets for accuracy. My rifle is set up for about 3.34 OAL about 10-20 thousandths off the lands. With the 160 GK that puts the base of the bullet right at the bottom of the neck - perfect. I had a 725 Rem with the Stainless barrel that liked them too. Should have never sold that rifle - it was a tack driver.
