I'm putting the finishing touches on my 375JDJ rifle & need some loads. All I can find on the WWW is handgun loading data. I will be shooting from a 24" barrel so I should get substantially higher velocities than the pistol loads which are commonly from 15" barrels. I don't plan on useing bullets heavier than 235 grains.

Same data just different velocities because of barrel length.

homer For you guys that can afford to buy a gun, barrel, sights, dies, brass, bullets, powder but are too cheap to buy a reloading program, here is a online version of the Powley computer program.http://kwk.us/

Hey no fair Fat Al, I've got hundreds of dollars in reloading books! ONLY one has 375 JDJ imfor for a 14 inch barrel. I've got SSK's download which is not that great and only for a 14 inch barrel also.

Working on a load of my own, once I find what the barrel likes, I'll post it here.

It isn't the amount/value of the reloading books, it is whether or not they contain the information you want.

The loading data for the 14" barrel is lower pressure, but will work just as well in the 24" barrel...only you will need to increase the pressures to get the higher velocity.

The way around your problem is to buy a chrono(if you don't already have one), use the Powley online program(375JDJ case capacity ~70 gr H2O) and/or buy Load from a Disk or Quick load.

You can also do it the old fashioned way...work it up slowly yourself like we did in the old days.

There are several very good powder burn rate lists available online and you can pick a powder close to the one you now have information on and work up a good load.

Accurat Arms and the Hodgdon 2006 reloading manuals both have some very good load data under the pistol section because that's WHAT the 375 JDJ was originally designed to be shot in.

I will be doing a 375JDJ probably as a stub barrel in a NEF HandiRifle or possibly a switch barrel for my Marlin 336 so I know all about hunting for data...it's out there, just hard to find.

Load from a Disk gives this data, taken from the Hodgdon 2006 and AA manuals for a 24" bbl barrel...the loads were very low pressure ~40KPSI for a TC pistol probably and the LD data matched closely...BUT...to get the higher velocities, ~500-800fs higher, LD's top powder amounts were 20 - 25% heavier.

You've been around long enough to understand this and to know how to approach load development to get the parameters you want.

2006 Hornady manual...220 gr Horn FP, 51/BLC-2 -2036fs...

LD same bullet, 69.7/BLC-2 - 100% load, 48,486 CUP/2728fs.

AA#2 manual, 235gr SPR SP, 51/AA2520 - 2162fs/42.6KPSI...

LD same bullet, 100% load - 65.5/AA2520 - 2732fs/54,298 CUP.

LD also lists Benchmark, AA2230, AA2460, Varget, N135, N140, H335, H380 and IMR4064. Hodgden list H4198(too fast for my taste), H4895, H335 and BLC-2.

Hope this helps some. The 375 JDJ is a good one but also one of those that never got the respect it should have. You gotta be one end or the other of the smarts spectrum to want to mess around with this one.... Big Grin Hahahahahahah.

Luck

Ken Waters has an article in the Wolfe Pub. 'Big Bore Rifles and Cartridges' on the 444 case necked down to 375, he called it the 375 express. He has a bunch of loads from 220's to 270 bullets, using 3031, 4064, 4320 and 4895. If you want to send me the powders you'd use, I'll shoot you some loads. Bob
