Well I've been working on some loads for my 1891 Mauser sporter.

Naturally I want to keep these kind of mild, I was really looking for a short range (under 100 yards) pig and deer round, with my old eyes even with a peep sight I don't feel confident beyond that. This load is a 180 gr. Speer RN, 43 gr. of Reloader 15, Graf cases and CCI large rifle primer, average velocity was 2230 FPS. I shot 3 shot groups with 40,41,42,43 and 44 grains.

Three shots .205" center to center at 50 yards. It was pretty windy this morning so I think the wind must have counteracted my flinching. Anyway, I'll load a bunch of these up and start practicing for hunting season to make sure it wasn't just the wind. The 44 grain load also has some promise, .1" vertical dispersion but spread horizontally about 2.9", I didn't have a good aiming point for that load so I'll also try it again, average velocity for 44 grains was 2270 fps.
