fisherhahn: My last 3 moose were shot with a 30-06 using 180 grain ballistic tips. Not exactly recommended by those espousing the "convetional wisdom" on moose bullets. All kills were clean and quick, with two weighing over 1200 pounds and the only one that travelled any distance was running when I shot, and died within 50 yds. My load was 48.5 grains of IMR 4320.

I'm looking for a good moose load for the 30-06. I'm going on my first moose hunt(fist guided hunt, first hunt outside NY state)and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for a good load. I was planning on shooting the 180gr Barnes XLC behind 56.5 grains of IMR4350. I'm thinking the shots will probably be under 150yds. Any input would be appreciated.

The XLC is a good choice but I like the new Triple Shock better. Even if you stick with the XLC (which is harder to get a real good group in my opinion), a moose is large enough out to 150 yards that your accuracy needn't be as precise. Bob Foulkrod (sp?) killed a moose at about 200yrds on the OUTDOOR Channel with a 300 mag and 180 Ballistic Silver tips. Dropped it where it stood. My choices would be these and in this order: 180 triple shock 180 partition/or 180 accubond 180 A frame 180 Trophy Bonded I like IMR 4064 and 4350 in the 30.06 the most. H4350 next.
