Loaded up some factory seconds from Shooters Pro Shop - 140 gr Nosler Partitions in Ruger Mkll SS with boat paddle stock. 68.5 gr SC4831 and CCI 250 primers - velocity = 3250 fps and outstanding groups - 1/2" (3 shot). Also tried RL22 which usually is top notch in this rifle but in this case 70 gr at 3340 fps averaged 2" - so I will stick with the SC4831. As usual - safe in my rifle may not be in yours. Factory seconds look just like regular NP's - at $12.50 per 50 it is a bargain.

In a 338 WM I rebedded the forend tip (2") of a Ruger 77 tang safety model. Had free floated the barrel but was dissappointed in the 210 NP's groups. After re-bedding and using 75 gr IMR 4350 with WLR primers the 210 go into nice 3/4" or better cluster at 2960 fps. Also tried Speer 225 gr GS with 73 IMR 4350 for 2830 fps - very nice groups under an inch - at near enough to the same impact point as the 210's to not have to resight. Some groups with the GS were quite impressive - nice bullet.

130 gr Nosler Partition seconds in a 270 with 58.5 gr RL22 and WLR primer measured 3160 fps and shoots into tinny little cluster - this rifle is a custom 98 made in 1948 and I glass bedded the action and forend on this rifle too.

In my experience after messing around with these rifles bedding the forend tip really helps - I tried free floating them as well - except the paddle boat stock - left it alone - its shoots fine as is. However, I'm not generating much up pressure at the forend - the action is bedded first then the forend with the action screws snugged up during hardening - Accuglas Gel. The barrel is just craddled. On repeated trips to the range impact shift due to weather conditions is nil - and Alabama has some wild swing in humidity conditions - exposed wood not bedded is sealed with stock finish.

Your RL-22 loads are a little lite for me. I use 58.5grs with a 150gr, and 60 grs for the 130's.

For the 150 gr in 270 I use 56 gr RL 22 for 2940 fps - and for 160 NP, my favorite, I use 55 gr for 2850 fps. My 270 would never take some of the maximum loads listed - lose primer pockets - but I am happy with the velocity I am getting and the accuracy. I am sort of a two bullet per caliber shooter. For the 270 it is 130 and 160 gr, for the 7mm its 140 and 175. For the 338 I like 210 and 225.
