My favourite rifle cartridge these days seems to be the ever reliable 270 Winchester.

Nothing new in my favourite load for it; Remington CoreLokt 130grSP .020 off the lands, seated in either Win. or Rem. cases over 58.0 grains of ADI AR2209 ignited with CCI200 primers.

I'm shooting a 130 gr. Nosler Partition, with 56 gr. of IMR 4831, Winchester cases, and CCI 200 primers. Awesome bullet, tack driving load in my rifle. Happy shooting!

The 270 Winchester has been one of my favorite cartridges since I first used one for varmint and med-size game hunting back in 1965. I still have the Remington 700 ADL that I bought back then but it has been re-built four times. It is wearing its 7th barrel,and 3nd stock at present.The present stock is a HS-Precision Varmint stock like Remington puts on their varmint rifles and the barrel is a 28" HART 1 in 10" twist rate.I have two favorite loads that have proven themselves on big game, varmints and long-range target shooting. They are as follows. For big game I use the Nosler 150-grain Ballistic Tip bullet over 52-grains of IMR4350 powder and a Federal 210M primer. Have shot this load on targets out to 1150-yards and longest kill with it at 833-yards. It is a real killer on deer, and will mess up a groundhogs day also. The Second load is the Sierra 135-grain Match King bullet over 54.5-grains pf IMR4350 powder and a Federal 210M primer. It is very accurate and will work well out to about 850-yards. After 850-yards the afore mentioned load works much better. I believe that it is the bullet weight that helps at the extended ranges. Give these two loads a try and I'm sure that they will get the job done!

I to shoot a 270Win. alot. Pepole say it isn't an elk round but back before I went magnum my family ate it's way around a hole lot of elk steaks shot with a 270(mostly with 130gr. Sierra's toooo). I used to shoot O'Conner's old load of 62grs. old 4831/130gr. bullet and in my pre64 feather weight with it's shot-out throat it gave 2995fps. Now whis it's new 24in. barrel I shoot 57grs. of IMR4350/ 130gr. for 3160fps.

I've loaded the 150g Partitions in my BDL in 270 Win to just over 3000 fps for 40 years. I use Rem brass, CCI 250 primers (magnum) and a lot of H4831. No pressure signs, sub MOA accuracy, 10 loads per case. Kills elk, deer and black bear like lightning hit them.

my question is.. if AR 2209 is H4350 powder. is that not kinda HOT.. my books show 55 grains MAX of H4350 with 130's i load 54.5 grains of IMR 4350 i load 56 grains of IMR 4831

130 gr. partition, 59.5 gr. H4831, CCI 200 primers. Found the same load with 130 gr. Sierras shot the same for cheaper practice.

Just loaded 61.5gr Of RL26, using Barnes 130gr TTSX bullets 215M primer and Win Cases 3.280 OAL about 3200fps. Also 54.0Gr RL17, Barnes 130Gr TTSX bullets 215m primer Win cases 3,280 OAL about 3200fps. in Sako A7 24" barrel.

In my 270 and 30-06 I can get at least a 100 FPS additional velocity and much less pressure with old milsurp 4831..I won't name the charge but Jack O'Connor used it, and its super accurate..

That said, the downside is that it cuts grains to beat hell in a powder measure so every load need to be weighed...

RL-22 and H414 never need to be weighed, just drop a load and seat a bullet, I really like that..and don't need a 100 FPS anyway..

RL22 is my go to powder in my .270 these days....

Yeah, I paid homage to O'Conner and used 4831 for 30 years. But RL22 is just such a better powder and easy to work up to a decent load.

Its also a great powder in a 300 WSM...

No problems getting my 130 grain Nosler Solid Base bullets to 3100 fps with R22. Killed a semi-load of critters with this combo over the years.

There was a load noted in an loading manual years and years ago at 62 gr. (130 gr. projectile). I have been using 61.5 for I bet 30 years.
~3250 FPS (chrono) with Winchester brass.
This load is over suggestions in current manuals but has worked for me all these years with no issues. I use Nosler partitions. One of my primary whitetail loads.I have used in 1n three different bolt actions.
Like that velocity for whitetail deer hunting.
243 95 gr at ~3150 FPS IMR 4831
270 130 gr at ~3250 FPS RL 22
7 Wea. 160 gr at ~3250 FPS MRP

All Nosler partitions. I have seldom tracked a deer when I use these calibers and loads. Bang flops

Chopper Read wouldn't surrender his .270 Win load data ;-)

H-4831 is The Definitive .270 Win Powder. But as Ray pointed out, it ain't user friendly.

RL-19 is excellent with 130 grain bullets. I use 59 grains of it. It'll shoot .25 @ a hundred: yards, not meters ;-)

For pure muzzle velocity no powder yet can compare with old WW2 milsurp 4831 aka 4350 Data powder..You will get 100 to as much as 200 FPS more velocity depending in a .270 or 30-06 with much less pressure and you can get enough powder in the case to blow a primer..62 grs was the load of the day back then with WW brass, cut a grain with the Rem brass was suggested but Rem wouldn't hold but 61 tamped so duh!!

I still have about 40 pounds of that stuff in a stainless steel 150 lb. military container encased in 2x4s and marked US property..The powder is as good as new..I should probably sell it, as I don't use it that much these days.
