Your choice of IMR-3031 has given me great accuracy in my rifle. A little more velocity for the distance and the same level of accuracy can be achieved with 50 grainers and 35 to 37 grains of Varget. See what your rifle likes.

Varmitshooter

600 yards is getting to be a long ways with a 50 Gr bullet. But a few years ago on a trip to Montana for PD's on back to back shots I got one at 545 and 565.

I had been hunting for a better 22-250 load before that trip. Looking through my Nosler 4 manual. It stated that IMR 4895 was the most accurate powder tested. I figured what the heck give it a try. My most accurate load was just .2 under Max. It's been my 22-250 load ever since with one exception a Benchrest load has also been very close with about 100 fps more MV.

I've always had good luck with 50 gr. bullets and 36 grains of H-380 in my .22-250.

52/53 grain match bullets with 36 grains of IMR 4064, nothing else is required. Would recomend the 55 Nosler BT for longer ranges.

I'll second what 7mm.guy said. I've gotten great accuracy with 36grs of H380, and Sierra's 53gr match bullet. Although i've never tried it at 600yds, out to 400yds it groupes 2MOA ( 1/2 moa at 100yds). I use Rem cases and Br4 primer

If your rifle has a tight twist like 1:9 you may want to look at the heavier sierra matchking HPBT, they were made for long-range competition shooting. I've had good results with the 69gr bullet in my 223 rem. There is also a 90gr bullet but i've never used it since the COL is to long for my AR-15 magazines.

At longer ranges the heavier bullets would be preferred if your barrel will stabilize them properly.

nothing less than a 60 gr. the 50 gr bullets is going to loose its velocity to fast for a 600 yd piece. the 68 gr. works well at that range, my 22/250AI that i built for the 500-800 yd range I built with a 8" twist barrel to shoot the 80 gr sierras.

I take it that your Not shooting a 22-250AI with a fast twist barrel...

However "butchloc" did have a good point, go with a heavier bullet, say the Nosler 55gr Balistic tip loaded to about 3700fps or faster if you can stand it without showing pressure signs.... Your 1-14 twist barrel won't stabilize any thing heavier than the 55gr. If you set a 250yrd zero you will be a reasonable 4 1/2ft. low at 600yrds. Wind will bother you less with than with the 50gr and retained velocity and energy will be greater than with the lighter bullet.....

Again, the posts that recommend, Varget are right on, that has been a great powder, since it came out. I used 3031, to much bark, and IMR-4895 for years, but the Varget has given me greater velocity and accuracy, than with either of the previous powders......
