The 300 RUM looks like it maybe a good cartridge for long-range targe/hunting. When I rebarrel my long-range rifle I may go with this cartridge chambering. Any advice and load info would be a help. Bullets from 180 to 240-grain would be what I will use. Also is there an Ackley Imp version of the 300 RUM, and if so what can you tell me about it.

You want an improved 300 RUM??? The 50BMG comes to mind... Seriously, my elk load is the max of RL25 with a 180gr BarnesX out of the Hornady manual. Gives 3405 fps out of my Rem 700.

I'm reloading the 300RUM for my brother. He wanted a lighter recoiling load to hunt whitetail with and get some practice for a future elk hunt with the rifle. We picked a load from the Nosler book for the 150 partition and H4831sc. The starting load was accurate in his rifle and that is what he hunted with this fall. The round is more than enough for a whitetail and he found that it anchored them right slam down now which is important when hunting over clearcuts. The 300 RUM would be one of my considerations for a elk.

As always, depends what the rifle likes. I loaded Barnes 200gr X with 87 gr RL 25, should be the optimal elk load for the 300 RUM My best sheep load was Barnes 168gr XLC with 93 gr RL25 All Barnes bullets typically whistle thru sheephunter
