I picked up some speer 130gr and 150gr flat points and am looking for some load info for these two. does anyone have any Speer manual data or pet loads that work good for them? I do have a pretty good supply of W748.These would be used on average sized whitetail. Any info would be great, thanks.

I have the Speer # 12 book. It has a max of 35.5g of 748 for the 130g bullet, with a velosity of 2221 fps. The 150g bullet has a max load of 37.0 of 748 for a velosity of 2238. I personaly think Speer is out to lunch on their .30-30 loads. They show a top load of 32g of H335 with the 150g bullet. I have found published load data that states 35g is the max for 335, with a muz vel of around 2400fps. I have loaded 34.5g of 335 and Hornady's 150g RN, for a Win 94, and had no sign of pressure. I have also seen load data for the 130 that had it going over 2600fps. Check out some of the reloading pages on the net.

I'm using H322 and Speer 130 grain flat points.

I have a strong, modern Marlin lever action. I've got 37.5 grains of the stuff- but that might blow up in your gun. Try less, and build up. I tried a smidge more, but I got less accuracy- so I backed off. Backed off- HA! It's powerful!

This is a stout hunting load for a strong lever gun. I would not shoot these all day. I would not try it in a contender!!!

I took 7 deer with this load last season. Results were from "drop in tracks" to "I don't care to discuss my poor shot placement." I'm sighted in at 150 yards, and I took 3 out that far and a bit more. Results were satisfactory. I did not clean the deer, as they are diseased and this was a varmint shoot.

Primers are flattened. Don't try this one unless you know your gun is in top shape. It is, however, reasonably in line with some OLD speer data. Newer data is more conservative.

As I said, it's what I shoot, and I expect you will blow up and die if you don't work up carefully. I shoot in the cold, to boot..

Take care,

Pete

Ohaygen, why are you using flat points? We use pointed bullets in our bolt action Savage .30-30's. I have found the bulk 125g Remington, and the Winchester 150g pointed power points, work very well at .30-30 velositys.
