I just got a new job and to celebrate I put a deposit on a 338 rum in 700 lss I was wondering what you guys are useing for your favorite loads and what kind of speed and accuracy your getting I was thinking of going with 210 noslers for hunting and the 215 sierras for playing but I am open to options mostly I will be mountain hunting for sheep moose and bear but it is also in grizzly country and will be appliying for the draws thanks guys
Hello One of my best loads for 338 Ultra Mag. is 93.5grs. of VihtaVuori #N560 , 250gr Hornady or Swift Bullet Remington brass fed.215 primer. It will shoot all day long 1/2-3/4 inch groop at 3040 fps. Or 94.5 grs of same powder with 225gr. bullet. Same, all the rest at 3150 fps. Good luck!!

Hi, I have a rem. 700 stainless/synthethic in 338 UM. I have a very good load for this rifle as follows: 250 gr. Nosler Partiton, 91 gr. RL-22, Winchester brass, F-215 primer, velocity 2940. This is near a max load so work up to it. This load is proven on a nice 6X6 Colorado bull. It went into the front left shoulder and out the rib-cage on the opposite side. Elk went 15 yards. Good Luck. Almost forgot the most important thing. It shoots 3/4" to 1" groups consistantly.
I have a Hayes? type brake on mine. The recoil is an instant sharp sting followed by a medium push. With 200 Grn bullets the recoil isnt any worse than a 30-06 with 180 Grn. loads. With the 250 Grn. loads I feel the above mentioned recoil. It seems to compare to my 45/70 hot loads in recoil power but over a shorter duration. I love it!

The recoil of 338 RUM is something you just get use to when you shoot that gun alot. When I first got my 338, I shot it alot and I started to think that this gun doesn't recoil that bad. Well I will be truthful here there is alot of recoil. But like I said I just got use to it. My gun is a Rem. Mod.700 KS It has a Swarovski 3x9 with Talley rings and bases the barrel has been Mag-Na-Ported. This is a great Gun and caliber it will shoot them real tight groops. 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It seems to like the 250 and 225 gr. bullets the best. Good luck to you, if you are thinking about geting a 338 RUM they have my indorsment. I have been abel to shoot alot of differnt big game with differt calibers and the 338 RUM just flat gets the job done. Good luck to all. This is a great site.
