The 165 gr. thread was a great help to me. Finally settled on 56.5 grs. IMR 4350. Now I need an accurate load using 180gr. Nosler Partitions. Can anyone help?
Peter.

You should try the usual suspects: 60 grains of Reloder 22 or H4831SC, 55-56 grains IMR 4350, 58 grains IMR 4831, 57-58 grains N160 or Reloder 19.

Others swear by H414.

For myself, due to the peculiarities of the barrel on my Remington 700 Stainless Mountain Rifle, I use a stout charge of IMR 4064 or Varget with a 180-grain Partition. You'd be surprised how consistent and accurate a load Varget makes in the .30-06.

I like 56 gr of H-4350 - good velocity and good groups. As always, start a little lower and work up. I think 57.5 gr is the "book max."

I had great results w/ RL22 for 2750fps from my son's 22" bbl. Ruger. H4831 is a bit faster & may give better results.

I use 60.0gr of RL 22 and a WLR primer with a 180gr Partition and get 2850fps from a 24" barrel. This is 1.0gr less than the book listed max.

P-17,

What is your Varget recommendation? My usual H4350 didn't deliver the accuracy it usually does with that bullet?

Kuduking, I'll give you my Varget recommendation with one proviso: since it is above the book max, you must work up very, very carefully, if at all. Proceed with EXTREME caution!

The book max calls for 47 grains, I believe, and I've 48.5 grains of Varget used with 180s makes an excellent target load, with speeds around the 2650 to 2700 mark. I would recommend 48.5 grains as the load to seek out.

I, however, actually manage to use 50 grains without any problems whatsoever, but that is because of the peculiarity of my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle, which has a smooth but "slow" barrel and generally prefers hotter loads.

I've tried Varget in the .30-06 with bullets weighing between 150 and 180 grains and found it to be excellent.

My 22" bbl'd M70 prints beautiful sub-moa groups with the 180 Partition on top of 57.5 grains of H4350 / RP brass / WLR primers. Bullets are seated .030" off the lands. Velocity is 2,780 fps. I couldn't ask for anything else from this grand cartridge.

My standard '06 load is 55gr of IMR-4350 with a 180 Sierra GameKing. I can use the same load with a 180 Partition and actually shoot the 2 different bullets into the same group. Sean
