velodog: I recently purchased a Merkel 470 as well. I know most guys are using RL15 but I wanted to stay away from the Wads and Fillers, so I started with H4831sc. For reference purposes you may want to obtain a copy of A-Squares manual...that is the reference I used. Swift also has some data for A-Frames. Barnes has data as well on other powder chioces. I use Norma Brass, Federal 215 Match Grade primers and H4831sc. Been working with 500 grain Barnes Banded Solids, Woodleigh Softs, and North Fork Cup Points. The felt recoil with H4831sc is noticeable more than the Federal Factory loads, however, the loads I have worked up are much more consistent, to the point of aim, and proven to be very accurate in my rifle. Please note that anyone using this information should work up to these loads..ie start with lower powder charges than those listed below.. Using Norma Brass, Federal 215 Match Grade Primers, trimmed to 3.240", all 500 grain bullets, etc Barnes Banded Solids: 108 to 110 grains H4831sc Woodleigh Softs: 108 to 111 grains H4831sc North Forks: 104 to 107 grains H4831sc I chronograph all my load development stuff so I know where I am at...I would suggest you do as well...start a bit lower and work up to these loads..if you decide to use this data...better yet get the A-Square Manual it will be of assistance to you. Good luck, jjs

Another option is 105.0 to 108.0 grains IMR4831 with Woodleigh bullets, no filler, F215 primers. (470 NE load)
