I'm looking for some saddle panniers that are not huge like most of those I see for sale. I would like them to ride a lot higher too. I would use these for packing meat which is plenty dense when boned - so the big bags that hang down low (like Trail Max packs) aren't really what I'm after. Does anyone know of anything currently made or a good custom maker? FWIW, my horses are only about 14 hands (hafliners) and pretty barrel chested. A canvas tent maker could sew the bottom shorter or make them to your spec. Try Buckstitch Canvas in Cody, Wy

I have some I bought from Country Supply. They have worked well for me. The saddle pannieers don't seem like they are as sensitive to weight balance as standard pack trees are. I can't remember where, but Country Supply is in Ia. A shot not taken is always a miss

All you really need is a good sewing machine. I had my wife make me some out of nylon. A lot less bulky than the commercial ones, I've seen Grizz Indeed, no human being has yet lived under conditions which, considering the prevailing climates of the past, can be regarded as normal. what type of pack saddle do you use? I'd use utah panniers to pack out meat if I used a pannier. I usually mantie the meat, then you can hang it as high or low on the saddle as you want.

I like to use nylon instead of canvas. The canvas seems to rot out quicker. With the nylon you can just wash them and put them away. I like Davis Tent and Awning.
