Well, after using the crooked stirrups for a bit this spring I have decided they are definitely a good thing. My sore knee isn't so sore!

In my old age I've started looking at all the orthopedic styles of gear to make it easier on my legs, knees, ankles. some of it is pretty cool stuff. I use the turnout stuff on my western saddles, not necessary on my Aussie gear. It really does help, which I judge by how long I can ride without discomfort.

Are they the stirrups where the foot surface angles down?

Where did you get them?

Also, is that a 5Star pad?

The stirrups are from Walls. Not that expensive. I just called them. They are the roper version. Their web site sucks but the stirrups are nice!!

If you look at guys just sitting around in their saddles the bottom of their boots are crooked in the off-the-shelf standard stirrups:

Yeah that is a 5 Star pad. I just called them & told them what I wanted: 30x30, rounded corners mule pad. I like the pads.

Pretty damn expensive but a real wool pad, as opposed to the rubber, ortho, mumbo jumbo crap the pad makers try to sell ya.

Thanks Will.

I want to make a set of those stirrups this winter and try them out for my poor old knees.

It looks like they angle at about 15*?

We got a bunch of 5-Star pads for the whole family this past summer - 1". The pad looked familiar!

Will,
I have been using them for about 3 years now to team rope in and for my cowboying..I would not consider any other stirrup. My 15 year old knee pain went away after about 3 months of using them and has not come back..I have them on all my saddles. I like the rawhide covered ones best.

Are the knock-offs as good as the brand name Crooked stirrups? I finally broke down and ordered a new saddle last week, and have been looking at the Crooked stirrups. Derned knees!

Good hunting,

Andy

I am going to be getting a new saddle this spring and will have to look into these stirrups. I get some severe left knee pain when I spend any more then 1 hour in the saddle. Thanks for posting!
