When I was young, very broke and at Stanford U in Palo Alto, Kal., there was a shop in nearby San Jose which specialized in horseflesh for human consumption. Used to feed some pretty good steaks to young lasses who I invited over to my apartment for steak and wine (and, hopefully, more). They never seemed to notice the difference from beef, and it was easy on on the budget. More recently some rotten bastard gut shot my 19-hands high Holsteiner german warmblood, at 1:30 a.m. while he was standing in his 12' x 12" run outside his barn stall. Used a .22 RF, but it still killed him after prolonged suffering. He was 30+ years old, had been a member of the U.S. equestrian team in both Gran Prix jumping and dressage, and was my very best friend. If I ever catch the son-of-a-bitch who did it, I'll be eating HIS liver. AC | ||
