My mule has apparently torn a ligament and will probably be out of action for some time.

Any beyond-dead-broke mules or horses out there?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Bill . . . from down in NZ not much I can do about it except to say that if I were closer, and not just about to head away into our mountains for a week of gathering 500 breeding cows for their fall vacinations, I'd gladly lend you my best gelding !

How old are you Will? I'm 55, I can break a 2-yr old. It causes me more mental stress than stress on my body.

Even if I knew how, I don't have the patience.

My mule is almost healed up, just a small amount of swelling above the right front fetlock.

It was not a torn ligament but the farrier trimming her hoof crooked! I didn't see it until the vet pointed it out! What a dummy I am for not seeing it. So I took her home from the vet and trimmed her hoof, and the other three since I was at it.

That's what I get for being too lazy to trim her myself. So I ordered one of the shoeing stands to try to save my back so I can trim her myself from now on.

I used to trim and shoe my mules myself but got to be too much work. At 67 I don't really want to start again but I'll try and see how it goes. And find a different shoer if need be.

We're off on a trip Wednesday to look at a mule down south. Maybe we'll get it if it is really broke. I need a backup and having another dead broke mule would be good for the grandson in a couple years when he's old enough to ride.

I used to do that too, but then one learned how to hit the emergency stop button with her tail and damned if she didn't tell all the others how to do it too!

I was able to fix that by putting some duct tape over the emergency stop switch, but OSHA walked in on me one time and said I couldn't do it anymore, as it was hazardous or unfair or something to the mules and made me pull it off.

The mule smirked at me whenever the inspector would write something down in his notebook, then go back to looking all glassy eyed when he'd look up.

Conniving animals, mules are.
