It looks like the cat may already be dead. Dunno.

Ckeck the ears on that horse! I saw this picture series posted elsewhere. It's a mule "playing" with a dead cat. I reckon we need a MULE forum now!! --Mike

Quote: Evidently it isn't afraid of cats. If I had me a couple of mules like that I could pack in anywhere.

I'm a bit curious, but how can you tell that it is a mule?

A week ago there was a coyote yapping at my gelding from the other side of the fence. Knowing my horse he was daring the yote to come in for a visit. I listened to their BS for an hour (3 am to 4 am) and was sick of it. I took my mag light and spotlighted the area and it sent the song dog packing. I have no doubts my horse was taunting the coyote. He's a killer on rabbits, carries deer carcases around and will munch squill too. I think he'd take on pretty much anything that will come into his pasture.

Clemment, The big ears are a give away, but total confirmation is also different, foot structure is different also..Mane is short, but a Henny will have a long mane like a horse..A Henny is crossed the other direction from a mule and because her mother is a Jackass and her sire is a horse, she looks more horselike than a mule, prettier and in my experience harder to train and tend to be on the mean side.... I never thought about it as I was raised on a big Texas ranch in the Big Bend of Texas, some 100,000 acres and just grew up knowing the difference as we rode horses, Mules and Hennys...

Thanks. I've only ever ridden a horse two times, both a number of years ago. My great Aunt used to race horses at Saratoga in NY back in the 50s and 60s. The only other times I've been around them are county fairs. BIG animals, very impressive. I always thought it was amazing the working relationship that people develop with them.

A horse is a wonderfull animal, intelligent, kind and will work his heart out for the right owner... Their only faults come from the people that ride them.. People that don't trust or like horses and cannot get along with them, because of their own stupidity, should never get on one, else they will just ruin a fine animal... Dogs are the same way, but I never could teach a dog to do anything and as a result I only have them for pets..A cowdog trainer once told me you gotta be smarter than the dog to train one, and that let me out....but I can say the same for a horse.. I can rope steers all day long and then put a year old kid on my horses and walk away from them, my 8 year old grandaughter warms up my rope horses for me..If a child falls off he will freeze like a statue until someone picks them up..Happened just like that last year with a friends 4 year old, he fell under Porkchop and old porky just froze to the spot and reached down and smelled the crying boy...I was pretty proud of him, and he got some extra oats that day. but put a man on him and go rope and he is fired up and ready and will give you the same shot every time on any steer....We have about 5 horses just like him.

This Mule's name is Henry, and he hates Mountain Lions. He's been hunting Ted Turner's Ladder Ranch in New Mexico something like 25 years and apparently can track cats. I'm told he gets so worked up when close to a cat that they have to tie him up to keep him from getting into the middle of the hounds under whatever tree the cat goes to ground in. I don't know all the details on this series of pictures but a good friend has a set of these prints that were given to him by his close friend who is the Ladder Ranch's manager.
