Here are a few pictures from an outing the Beartooth Back Country Horsemen did at Deer Creek. For those of you who are not familiar with our organization, we are a group of dedicated men and women who maintain some of Montana's back country trails. We also deliver supplies to forest service personnel and cook meals for the trail crews. The deer creek project included building a new corral for the cabin. The cabin is located in the Gallatin National Forest and can be rented out for a mere $35 a night. A blue ribbon trout stream runs next to the cabin where you can fish for cut throat trout. Here is a few pictures of the gang loading up at the trail head. Taylor one of our members has a nice herd of Scottish Highland ponies. Getting the manties and panniers loaded for the 5 mile trip back in. Picture of my mule Petie set for the ride in. Casper the other mule to join us on the trip. Taking a break on the trail and getting ready to go over the pass. Picture of Taylor with his Highland stead Views of the valley and pass. Fire had hit this area a few years back and is just starting to get regenerated. Picture of the log book at the cabin from the guests that have stayed there and there exploits. Cabin we will be staying in for next few days and the old corral that is going to be replaced in the background. High lining the critters. Petie taking a break chomping on some vegetation. Afternoon rain shower in which everything got drenched. One of our party had to ride out back to the trailhead in this stuff to see what was happening with the forest service personnel and to see why that hadn't shown up yet. Forest service people had the trailer tires slashed so it took some extra time coming in. This gal was making friends with Casper. She rode in by herself with a pack load of equipment and supplies. Some of the panniers were over 100lbs and she loaded them herself! John tearing down the old fence. Taking a break from tearing the old corral down. New supplies helicoptered in and ready to go. Dave spiking the new cross pieces together. Dragging new timbers towards the creek. Time for some breakfast and cowboy coffee. Vittles on the fire with John being the griddle master. Our canine buddy who came along to protect us from bears. Relaxing by the fire and enjoying the solitude of the back country. Petie doing his best to keep the pasture down. Casper surveying the new corral which meets his approval. A good time was had by all and the much needed corral renovation was completed. You can see some of our other projects by going to Beartooth Back Country Horsemen website. We provide a vital service to keep the trails open for all to enjoy and what better way than to do it on the back of a mule or horse! | ||
