Hello Guys

My 20 year old boots wore out - they were a set of Canadian handmade low ropers my Mum and Dad picked up for me in Calgary, and were very expensive back then. I fixed them lots but they are now like grandads axe and not safe to ride in anymore - especially now I've just started a young horse and might just end up walking home one day yet. We don't see any of your manufacturers everyday boots down here in NZ, usually only cheap dress boots.

Money is tight so the budget is US$150. I don't need leather soles necessarily, we are at the wet end of the country so mud is my friend in the winter and spring, maybe in a cheaper boot a composition sole is a more reliable bet ??

Can you guys give me some opinions on what brands and styles I should be considering as real good value for money, I've been looking at the likes of "Ariat® Sierra western work boots" and "Dan Post Waterproof Western Work Boots" on Sheplers.

Many thanks - Foster

I like to ride in leather soles, with a good heel for a spur to sit on. I have a pair of Boulets that that I really like.I think I gave about 150 bucks for them.

Last couple of pair that I've bought, and both are still holding up just fine, were Twisted X boots. I find them to be very comfortable, they have a spur ledge which I really like for riding boots, and are holding up far better than most of the factory boots that I've bought over the years. One pair that I've got is in your price range and is a low top/low heel type boot, though not a true "roper", the other pair is a bit dressier and hasn't made it to full barn duty yet.

Take a look at Sierra Trading Post google them, but I think it is www.sierratradingpost.com

Do a search for cowboy boots.

I just bought a pair of Twisted X boots for $80 shipped.

Might try that.

I have a pair of Dan Post water proof work boots. I wore out the soles and had a new set put on. I couldnt ask for a better boot. They are comfortable enough that I have Pronghorn hunted in them. I think I had to give a little more than $150.00.

I have no idea where mine were made, it's been so long since I bought them I seriously doubt I can read anything in them. Nonetheless, who ever made them did a good job.

Cheers

One can always buy Lucchese ropers. Admittedly they are made in Texas but with Mexican day labor but they're made in Texas (is Texas in the USA?). Even if it's 20 feet from the border?

Lucchese 2000's aren't very expensive. They're not waterproof but all leather like ropers are suppose to be. Smiler

I wear good boots every day of my life, I rope in boots, but when I was ranching I wore brogan shoes with spurs..I spent a lot of time on foot and horseback in very rough W. Tex. desert (Big Bend )mountains and walking was hard, but never felt any need for a better option. Worked for me..I also don't feel what I have on my feet makes a bit of differnce, within reason, in how I ride or whatever.
