Overkill from swedenWhat caliber combination will make most damage
What caliber/bullet cobination do you think will do the biggest damage to an animal like a bear? (With enough penetration from even bad angels)
I think that a 750grain woodleigh bullet at 2700FPS from a .577 tyranno would make a real big mess

I have heard that the new weatherby with the 28" barrel in .460 wby will give the 500 grain hornady 2780+FPS..
I think that to would be a real punch

Would the .600 OK with 900grain woodleigh at 2300FPS make less damage?
My 9,3x62 have the same velocity (2300FPS) but with a 286grain bullet and it dont make any big damage.
Then the .378wby whith 300 grain bullet at 3100 FPS would do a real mess..
What do you guys think..? I know it is different with the big five like a big buffalo..then you realy need deep straight line penetration.. but with smaller game like bears and moose and hogs...?

Overkill from swedenAnd then I mean with HUNTING rifles.. not any military stuff or a rifle like a 50BMG that has a weight of 15 kg!

Idaho Sharpshooterthat would be my 10lb 550 Gibbs Magnum with Macifej's solids for smashing/penetrating power.

Dang, and I was going to suggest a low recoil, shoulder launched item that would be ideal for you.

.666 Teufel with 999-grain Brass Velopex SHark "soft" by S&H.

That will blow off about 333-grains of
SHark Teeth in a six-pointed "Death Star" of six secondary missiles (each weighing about 55.5 grains). Then the remaining 666-grain cylinder with jagged leading edge will immediately tumble and create a wide wound channel until it stabilizes in a base-first TC FN penetration out the other side.
However, if the critter is not very big, it will simply explode in a mist of red, its elastic limit having been exceeded.
Let us hope to see ATFE approval and .666 Teufel rifles and bullets soon.
The other bad boy sporters could use some S&H Brass Velopex SHark bullets for similar effects.

The MetalsmithGood lord rip you sound worse than one of those "tact-i-tool" commercials.
I'd say the 12gaFH may be pretty much up there as far as causing some bodily harm.

MacifejIf the .666" Teufel isn't large enough you can try one of these....

.530WoodleighDon't worry about making a mess on bears, they don't mind a mess. Just use that lil' 'ole tadpole of a round...the .45-70 with enough Reloader-7 to make the bullet ease out of the case a couple times. LOL

RobgunbuilderFor a real mess try a 12GaFH with a paper patched pure lead bullet! Oh at 3000 fps it has more than enough penetration. Your ELGE and baby bears will love it.-Rob

I think that they would love it

But I can tell you that when I am hunting bears with my dog and it gets real close 10-20 yards I really want something that will do alot of damage... the baby bears are not kind in any way!
Do you think the .600OK 900 grain 2300 FPS will do more damage than .460 500 grain 2700 FPS?
stupid question anyway the 900 grainer i almost like 2 500 grainers..

but the velocity is not as high!

Bent FossdalThe most damage will be made if you can not controle your gun. Even with the 12GFH you need to place bullets.
Or the bear will damage you severly...
As ou are huntig with a dog, using a muzzle brake is nothing but cruel.
In Sweden you can use a silencer - do it. It tames recoil better, and is kinder to the dog - and yourself.
Screw velocty, use the heaviest bullet available. In a .460Wea'by, that means 600 grs at 2400fps.
With a silencer, recoil should be like a standard .375H&H.
