I just ordered a Ruger Guide Gun in .375 Ruger. I'm not a fan of steel jacketed loads. What is the best factory loads for bear (grizz and black)? Thanks BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

I killed a nice AK grizzly with the Hornady factory load in 270 grain interlock. 1 shot kill @ 100 yards. I've got a box of the 270 & a box of 300 grain interlock soft points. Plus 40 once fired brass. PM if your interested.

Prior to handloading for the 375 Ruger, I used DoublTap 270 grain TSX loads. I handload the same bullet.

Don't over look Nosler.

I don't think Nolser makes a factory load for the 375 Ruger.

My favorite factory load for the 375 Ruger is the new Swift ammunition using their 300 gr. SAF bullet. Great stuff!

This is a second endorsement for the Swift A-frame bullet. It is very effective on big (Cape Buffalo) and small (Whitetail). Sincerely, E Pluribus Unum - where out of many, we will become one.

I've had great success with the .400 gr SAF in .416 Rem Mag on Cape Buff. Less luck with a 350 gr SAF in 45-70 on bear. I think the SAFs need some speed to be effective. I'll check out the ballistics on all of these recommendations. I want something with enough punch to break both shoulders of a griz or black bear, yet still expands on a lung shot. Tough bill to fill I know. Thanks BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

I had a few boxes of the Swifts sent to me to test out prior to them selling them. They were very accurate from my gun. Still have half a box and will use them for Elk next year.

Try a 405 grain Woodleigh in your 45-70. Put in the right spot they work well. Roger ___________________________ I'm a trophy hunter - until something better comes along. *we band of 45-70ers*

^ Is that a factory load? I don't reload. I was thinking about taking up reloading to develop some hot 45-70 loads, but figured the safer/easier option was to buy the .375. LOL Cheers, BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

IF you have several firearms and shoot quite frequently I suggest reloading. When I first got my Ruger 375 Guide Gun I shot factory Hornady 270gr. load. Took a mule deer doe with factory load at 150yds on a damage control hunt. Then I started reloading and work up a load. Same load a buddy and I shoot very accurately in both our Guide Guns. Hornady cases Winchester WLRM primer 78.5grs of RL17 powder 300gr. Nosler Accubond bullet. Average chronographed velocity is 2590fps and a 1/2" 3-shot group at 100yds.

Buffalo Bore sells them. Reloading a .45-70 is very easy with lots of bullet choices and good info out there to keep you safe. Roger ___________________________ I'm a trophy hunter - until something better comes along. *we band of 45-70ers*

This past season my son and I and one of our bear hunting clients used the new Hornady GMX loads in our Rugers and they work perfectly Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

Just bought two boxes of Swift 300gr A-frames. Graf and Sons is having a sale right now. Lots of great prices! As for the Hordany GMX aren't they copper glad, steel jacketed? I'm not much for shooting steel bullets in my rifles. Sportsmans Warehouse in Thornton, CO had some on sale for less than $50.00 a box. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

You had great success with the 400 gr. SAF in your 416 RM. So, it was probably going 2,400 fps? You had less luck with the 350 gr. SAF in your 45-70, probably going 2,000 fps, or less? The 300 gr. SAF in the 375 Ruger is going 2,600-2,700 fps, so you will get the speed necessary for the SAF to open up. No worries.

Used 300gr Nosler AB in my .375 on Moose. Not bad integrity and penetration but thought it was lacking in shock transmission. Maybe higher impact speed might have helped the bullet expand faster for better shock. Going to try the 270gr TSX for better shock. Excellent results with TSX in .416 and .458. If you don’t want to handload try Doubletap 270gr Barnes TSX. Super accurate out of my Ruger All We Know Is All We Are

Another vote for 300g A-Frames. I don't have a 375 Ruger but this 300g A-Frame (Remington Safari Grade 375 H&H ammo) did the job on a nice brown bear in Alaska. Penetrated diagonally through the bear starting at the right shoulder. Should work fine in your 375 Ruger. Still weighed 299.5 grains Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Impressive photo and story Chuck375. Thanks for posting the results. Congrats on your bear hunt! 299.5 gr. Now, THAT’S weight retention WITH expansion...
