Has anyone tried this? I loaded some 350 TSX bullets with H4198 and increased the charge. I chronographed 2700 fps before I ran out of case room. There were no pressure signs. Others have done the same. I think with a faster burning ball powder I might be able to get higher velocity. 2700 fps, incidentally, gives 5700 fp of energy. AA2230 is too slow for 350 grain bullets. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard.

Why not AA#1680? I developed the Impala factory loads with an industrial powder, equalling #1680. Velocity is 2790fps for the 300gr LS and 2380fps for the 420gr RNFP solid. Pressure is very moderate. See www.impalabullets.at for ballistics. Loading data per PM.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure they import AA1680 to here (USA) but I can check. The Impala bullets look interesting also. In the USA it is illegal to hunt with solid bullets but one could use them in Africa. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard.

Hi Indy, I am surorised that there is a federal hunting law in the US. I have always thought hunting regulations are a state issue (this is what I remember wehen hunting in Wyoming and Nebraska). Anyway, the idea that a non deforming solid outperforms all deformation bullets is too new to be already recognized by all authorities. These bullets, however, are legal in most European states and they are getting more and more poular.

Many states require the use of 'expanding' bullets (they appear to consider even superhard-cast bullets to be 'expanding'); if I remember correctly, the only federal proscription on bullets is that handgun bullets may not be made of certain materials (e.g., beryllium, depleted uranium, et al.). GeorgeS is right. These are state laws. My impression is that just about all states prohibit non-expanding bullets for hunting big game. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard.

Indy; AAC1680 is shown in Barnes #4 as giving the highest velocity in the Ruger#1, 45-70 with both the 350 TSX and 400gr Original. It appears to be a ball powder (from the load density)and burning rate seems a tad faster than H4198 and RL7. AA2015 is actually a bit slower than those mentioned. Have never tried AAC1680, but it might be worth a try. Barnes seems to have used quite a bit in developing their loads for the Ruger so it must have been imported into the US. @.458only: you're right with the burning rate and yes, it is a double base ball powder. It is also excellent for the 7,62X39, 8X33 Mauser, .300 Whisper and the top performer in the .22(K) Hornet. In the .222Rem. and .223 only with light bullets. In the latter you can easily get 4000+ fps with a 35gr Impala Solid.
