Lads,

Ran a "find" on this cal. in these forums and found little loading info.

Long ago in a land far away... I purchased a Win 375 big bore in Mod 94 config. Had iron sights and grouped factory ammo to minute-of-venison at 50yds. The gun was a great "swamper" but eventually found its way to the back of the vaule.

I had little load data 20yrs ago, so made up lots of the following:

Hornady 220gr fp over 32gr of IMR 4198.

Lower recoil, but no increase in accuracy.

OOPS, power failure notice... more later.

Sorry lads,

The hamsters in the cage started to fade and the power fell off. Once fed, they are back spinning the generator.

To continue, I'm looking for an accurate, mid to upper power load for the 375 Win. I have several bullets likely designed for the Win and 35 Rem. Also have some for my 375 H&H, but wish to avoid them.

Would like loads for the Hornady 220gr FP and the Speer 235gr Semi spitzer. I can crimp the Hornady's but the Speer's have no cannelure.

These will be stuffed into my Contender carbine barrel (put the 94/375 back in the safe). Primary use will be white tail at 100yds max. I know that at that range this cartridge has enough "grunt" to easily dispatch with a well placed shot, even w/lighter loads. Accuracy is the real consideration here.

I'll load up and try your recommendations and report the results.

Don't know why I'm attracted to some of these oddball calibers... genetic defect perhaps.

Appreciate your comments.

Mike

I load the 375 win a bunch.I like only aa1680 powder for it.I like the 235 gr speer as a first shot only bullet. Its too pointed to be in the magazine.I have pushed the 220 hr hornady to 2400fps with the aa1680 powder.I have not been able to load it too hot before i ran out of powder room.I also shot the big 300 gr fmj out of it.Dont sneeze at this little cartridge. Its just as powful as a 375 jdj pistol and its shot elephants.I use mine as a truck/camper gun in Alaska.I have had 6 of them now down to two of them. Its fun to shoot very little recoil.

Check the Lever-action forum. There may be some information there.

You did not mention cast bullets but this is my favorite load in 2 two 94/375 BBs.

23 gr. 4759, WLR primer, Lyman 375449 cast from WW or #2 alloy.

Good for around 2000 fps from both guns and both shoot it to 1 1/2" at 100 yds for 4 shots.

I've always used IMR4350 for my 375 H&H. The loads are in the load book. I have my rifle sighted in at 150yds.

jro45:
I understand your confusion. Wink
375 Winchester not 375 H&H.
Hey, it still beats an antique 38-55.
