Landrum550 Magnum
I've got a CZ 550 375 H&H that I'm not exactly in love with due to it's clunky stock. Several years ago I was turned on to the idea of a 550 Magnum build. So, I have the donor rifle in hand and am wondering if any of you guys have built a 550 Magnum. If so, what are the possible pitfalls to be aware of? Any info would be appreciated.

Hog KillerFirst question.
How much recoil can you handle?? And still get accurate shots?
Keith
lon paul can take that stock and you will not know it is the same wood when he is finished. he took my old zkk 606 and did wood and metal work. now looks like a british rifel of old except for the come that it came with and he re- shaped.

jeffeossoContact RNS here. He can hook you up.
Idaho SharpsShooter had one, in fact I think he might still have it. He gave me one of the shells ,last week, to send to someone for their Big Bore cartridge collection.

Send Geoff McDonald at Woodleigh an email.
He built the 530 (Wby case) and 505/530
on a 505 Case so could give you so pointers.
He is also a good gunsmith.

jeffeossoGeoff, a couple years ago, wanted nothing to do with the project. Nice guy but zero interest
I'm getting the 530/460 done at the moment. Geoff reamed the barrel. when he designed the case he said he could have gone to 540 or 550 but wanted more taper to the case.
I looked into the 550 magnum several times as first preference but too hard to get barrels into Australia for it. For you guys it would be an easy choice.
Pitfalls? It's only that I know of is that it does not how an inexpensive practice bullet at this time but I am working on that.
Advantages it has brass, bullets, dies, barrels, and lab tested loading data. It is shootable and can be loaded up to 8,200 ft/lbs of muzzle energy or down. If you can shoot heavy 12 ga loads you can shoot this. Very little required to get your 375 h&h to shoot the 550 Magnum and hold 3 down.

IdahoshooterI had Accurate Molds cut 2 molds for a .550 that I'm having built. One is a copy of the 715 grain Cast Performance bullet and the other is a 600 grain wide flat nose. Both of these molds are listed in their catalog now.
I would love to try the 600 grain bullet on a mule deer this fall.
