It's an older model. Note the griffin & howe scope mount which is very high to allow use of the military style flag safety. Also note that the bolt handle is shorter than the Obendorf handle common on prewar commercial mausers from Germany.

Notwithstanding these faults, $5K for a genuine rigby in .375 in very good condition is probably a deal.

Hi,
Just wondered what the experts thought about this. Assuming it's a genuine Rigby it sounds like a deal.

Rear sight and safety do not look correct to me. Also may have been reblued, stock refinished.

I note that the bolt shroud at reast was given a "cheap nitre job" of refinishing, as the salts bath was too jhot for the type of steel and caused it to trun red instead of blue. It was NOT slow-rust blued, as Rigby would have done. This rifle appears to be a rudimentary job on a military action which shows very little modification from the original.

Thanks for the detailed info. I could be wrong, but in two of the pics it looks like it might have a tang safety instead of the original flag. Let me know what you think...

I agree with Eric on this one, I have been to the shop a few times and know the entire crew fairly well. I do not think anyone in that shop is capable of anything less than than spectacular.

I will express the same thing as Eric, I will be with someone from Rigby for 10 days starting 3 Sept and will certainly pass on any concerns that anyone may have.

I think you are right about the tang safety.

Not to hijack the thread, but what do you gentlemen think of a Rigby made in California? Seems to me like a big part of the cache and tradition is missing, even if the quality isn't, which is also debatable.
