Hey all, I was reading in the latest Rifleman a letter to the editor that was published, talking about Lott and the person writing it was supposed to have known him. He mentions that jack ended his life rather than die from cancer, I was just curious if this was true and if anybody could explain it more for me. "...He lived a long life, but he was finally in very ill health with his eyesight failing. Characteristically, when he decided it was time, he chose a 455 Webley." From the "Any Shot You Want" A Square Manual, section on the 458 Lott written by Craig Boddington. He seemed like an interesting character and the "real deal." Would like to know more about him and his "activities" in Africa. Joe

If I knew I was going to die in a few months, I'd go elephant hunting with a bow. If I bag the elephant great, if he charges , I guess it was worth trying. Sevens

I was talking to my stepfather about this today on a little trip we took to go to a special place for lunch (you know it is special when you drive 3 hours each direction, but where else can you eat lunch seated under a mounted elephant head?) He was of my mind set, if it were terminal then better to go out on your own than to go through that. My line to him was that I would hunt Lion with a spear. My grandma was brave about hers, when she found out she was terminal and that chemo would only extend her life, not cure her, she chose to forego and spent the last part of her good time enjoying herself. But then she lingered for a long time in bad pain, with the meds she didn't know what was happening around her and it was very sad. something to think on....hmmm. Red

Ed, it does seem like it. There aren't too many places that have all those mounts and good food to boot. I've gone there several times and am right in the general area.

That's the place! It was the first time I had been there, since we were driving up from Fresno I called day before and they said they would make a reservation for me and would see what they could do about holding the elephant table for me. We (my stepfather and I) had a guy with us from Finland, he had never imagined anything like it. I even bought a shirt, typical tourist! 110lbs. each, that is some serious ivory. I wandered aroiund and looked at just about every single picture. what a place. Red

Dago Red, Not to change the subject, but how is the food at Foster's. My relatives have been trying to get me to drive up there and check it out. Heck, one of the construction workers at my house said I should go. I think it's about time I went and tryed it. Sevens

You know, price was ok, food was ok, not as much food as I expected for what I paid, but the drink was real reasonable, and made right. I had a margarita with fish and chips. One guy had a new york steak sandwich, looked and smelled great. another had a burger and it looked good. there were no complaints about the food. but then again, you can stop there and just have a drink at the bar and wander around looking at the stuff. You have to see those tusks though. and a couple of the rhinos are just massive, not to mention the beautiful 6 buff's. Red

Dago Red, I thought that sounded familiar. I stumbled onto that place about 10 years ago. Had a few drinks there. Can't remember if the food was worth a hoot or not but the whiskey was fine and very interesting surroundings. Rich Elliott
