i got a question for you reloading types i am reloading for a 375 h&h the dies are hornady custom grade carbide and have been fully cleaned of all oil and grease. when i size unfired remington brass i have no problems how ever once i have fired the brass i have a different situtation i lube the cases not to much just enough to give the case i nice slick finish. i put the case into the shell holder and start the case into the die i dont feel any resistance what so ever till the case is almost completely in the die maybe 1/2" left to go i press the case into the die up to the belt on the case no farther i then extract the case this is where i notice the problem just above the shoulder is a ring about 1/8th wide and gose entirely around the neck of the case the bump is not huge but is defintly noticeable remember i do not have this problem with virgin unfired brass but after fireing thats when the problem occers dose any 1 here know what may be happening i have thought about the lub i am using (dillion case lube non aresol)maybe its crap stuff i am going to throw it out in favor of something else because i am not really fond of the stuff anyways i think ill try some of thestuff strieght from hornady.

quote:That dont sound like a lube problem It sounds like you are only partialy sizing the neck. Try screwing the die deeper into the press 1/2 turn at a time add see if that ring doesn't move down twards the shoulder. When it gets to where the neck meets the shoulder you have just neck sized your case To full length size follow the directions in the die set Good luck!!

Duh- You set your dies wrong. A fired case expands to the chamber dimensions( different than factory brass) and retracts slightly. The ring your seeing is just the die moving the neck back! Lower your die till the lube line on a fired cartridge just meets the shoulder and stop. DON'T touch the shoulder!tThis should solve the problem. Good luck on your 577! It's more complicated than this!-Rob [ 01-22-2003, 09:45: Message edited by: Robgunbuilder ]

ok i went down stairs this mourning and tryed what you guys said i just followed the instructions in the manual i raised my shell holder up to the highest point befor camming over i then lowered the die until it touched the shell holder just like it said maybe i wasnt putting the shell far enough into the die i was stopping just at the top of the belt but i forgot there is a resess on the bottom of the die so it allows you to press the whole case into the die that would defintly get rid of the little ring problem thanks guys for your help hey rob i have never had this problem befor i was just doing something i didnt catch thats all most of my loading has been for streight walled cases its when i do bottel neck stuff that i have run into problems with spacing but thats because i negected to notice the whole case wasnt going into the die.

You still may not have it right if your full lenth resizing and your cases will have a short life.... Go back and take a fired case, blackening the neck and shoulder with a match. back off the die a couple of turns from where you have it now. and resize half the neck, try it in your rifle, if it wont fit then turn the die in a turn at a time until the case fits in the gun with just a very very slight almost no resistence...then the case is fitted to your guns chamber and your brass will last many more firings, because you won't be over working the brass...
