Rechamber or not?

IanDRechamber or not?
I have a older BRNO 602 in .458WM that I am thinking of getting rechambered to .460Wby and wonder if it would be a feasible alteration. I just bought a CZ 550 in .458WM, so this one can be a "donor" for a custom rifle

jeffeossoyes, it is .. the lott is a better choice, and easier, but the 460 webby, in the right gunsmith's hands, will work perfect

How long chambered one 458 Winchester or Lott in a 460 Weatherby or 458 Express?, What would be the price of that work?
Thank you

Oscar.

Michael RobinsonIt can certainly be done. In addition to rechambering, the bolt face will need to be opened up to handle the bigger case head and the feed rails may need to be tweaked to insure proper feeding.
I have seen and handled a BRNO 602 rechambered from .458 Win. Mag. to .460 Wby. Mag. and really liked it. It fed and functioned perfectly. It was a Tanzanian PH's rifle.
You could also go with the .450 Rigby. A little less practical, in the sense that factory ammo is tougher to find, but just as powerful.
My next project is to have a CZ 550 Magnum that is now a .458 Lott reworked into a .450 Rigby.
So, if I were you, either the Weatherby or the Rigby would be my choice.

IanDThe reason I chose the .460 is because I have 4 boxes of brass, and I already have a .378 and .375 Weatherby

Would it need mercury added and was also thinking of magnaporting. What do you think?

Michael RobinsonIan, in my experience, mercury tube recoil reducers work and I do use and recommend them.
But only if good balance is preserved.
The PH .460 I mentioned above was light for caliber. It would have benefited from a mercury tube in the buttstock and a heavier profiled barrel, IMHO.
I don't think Magnaporting works all that well - it seems to me that it's kind of a half-assed compromise.
I prefer to use removable muzzle brakes. In the field, I take them off, since I don't feel recoil when hunting. On the bench, I use them and they work.

My experience as well with the 416 WBY, 585AHR and 600OK. Removable muzzle brakes work very well for target practice but I never felt the need for them in the field.

Scott,
That is a nice rifle!
Who did the job? did you ever consider rechamber to .458 3"? (which I believe is most popular in SA)
Cheers
