Adjusting rear sight Login/Join

I have a .375 H&H that I have a new rear sight for. I will be filing it at the range. What distance should I set the fixed blade for? The only likelyhood of the open sights being used are if I was chasing a wounded dangerous animal through thick bush. I was thinking 25 yards would be a good distance. Any thoughts before I start hackin away on this thing?

100 yards with a 375 and just shoot it at 25 and 50 so you know. It should shoot pretty flat.

To file a sight in use the 50 yard range and proceed very carefully and always have an extra sight on hand...If your about an inch high at 50 you will be close at 25 and 100..

A better alternative is to buy the plastic sight inserts from Brownell ( they come in a 12 pack ) insert them in your front sight dovetail, and clip them off as you sight in then mic them and cut your sight to that same height..also mark the windage on your front ramp..Then cut your sight at home to match and insert it, presto your on...Test fire it at the range for perhaps any final touch ups...Test fire at 25, 50 and 100 so you know your trajectory..

I file the rear sights of all of my express sighted DGRs so that my bullets hit dead center at 50 yards.

I am then effectively on target from point blank to 100 or so.
