Tell me about this cartridge. What is the parent case? Case capacity? Available bullet weights? Velocity and performance? Thanks.

470 Mbogo's website does say it all. You may want to search this forum as well. There have been a few discussions on this tremendous cartridge. If you still have any questions after all that, ask away. Lots of guys here that can answer, including the originator of the cartridge. Canuck

I think you may be missing the point of the 470 MBOGO. This is a hunting cartridge designed as an alternative to the great old .470NE but for commonly encountered bolt actions. The idea is to match or exceed the 470NE's level of performance at LOW pressures which will insure functional reliability in all environments. The .475 bullets are the same as the 470NE's and are readily avalable and have a great record on Dangerous game at only 2150fps. The purpose of this cartridge is not to hot-rod it into the un-usable level exemplified by the 460 WBY. It will work through a Ruger, 1917 Enfield, its particularily suited to the CZ550, M70 or other large actions. As we all know, driving a 500 gr bullet faster than 2400fps is a waste of time and it actually becomes detrimental on game. The Mbogo's balistics can essentially match the Lott/Watt/450 Ackleys which are arguably the most effective cartridges ever developed for shooting dangerous game. The advantage of the fact that the 470MBOGO uses a larger bullet means that it will have an even more deciesive effect on game than the Ackleys/Lott watt. Although the price to be payed is a .416 Rigby based action, a custom barrel and the costly need for custom brass, reloading dies, reamer and guages. In short, you can expect the 470 NBOGO to fall in- between the 450Ackley and the 500A2/ 500AHR/.510 wells in performance on game.-Rob

Hi gents I'm in Montreal on a piece of crap Hotel excuse for an Internetservice. I like 2500 fps velocity in order to get 2400 fps impact velocity which most shots to 100 yards would render. That's $4.00 worth of Internet time 470 Mbogo

Robgunbuilder - Good post. A needed reminder of something that many fellows tend to overlook. The perils of selecting bullets designed for use @ double rifle velocities, for boltaction application. A very few bullets above .458 caliber are actually intended for boltaction velocities and ones' final loads require some careful thought and testing.
