Probably 12 pounds at least, say 13 pounds or so with scope and mounts.

I was thinking originally of a Heavt Varmint bench taper but with a quicker taper down, in other words so it looks like an ordinary rifle barrel.

A Rem 700 is about 13 pounds all up with HV taper and scope so would probably be about 12 pounds with a 550 hole. On a Wby that would go back to about 13 pounds.

But I might just go with the flow

I am not overly concerned about it fitting standard stock as I will get a custom stock made as one of top stock makers is keen to do a Wby "look alike" as in the Euromark. But it would be hand if I could also have a shitty stock as well.

Sometimes I envy people who obtain total happiness for a Ruger Stainless in 308

As I posted to smallfry I think I will just go with the flow. If it is a bit light then I will just reduce the loads a bit more

Mike,
I am aiming for 10-10.5 (can always add weight) and 650s at 2200.

well at a point 12-13 lbs wont make enough difference to be unberiable unless you are already close to that point.

The 308 is a rather dangerous gun... you can fall asleep in the middle of shooting it!

You can always lead-plate the barrel

Nope... weld a shopping cart wheel to the bottom... mid way up the barrel and you will not only add some weight but have a "bi-pod" you know those things are terriably useful.

The barreled action sights and stock weighted 12.2 pounds on the scale when Mike weighted them.

Neal,

Was that on a CZ and with completed stock.

I guess a Wby would weight about the same as a CZ, maybe more with a steel floor plate.

The stock was unfinished and needed a little shaping. The stock did not have a recoil pad or swivel stud or grip cap which will add just a little, and it was empty weight no cartridges.

Neal,

Well that sounds like your "standard" barrel will be fine for me unless the unfinished stock had a lot of weight to come off although the recoil pad would add some weight back on.
