I posted this under Gunsmithing yesterday and obviously from the responses that I got I did not make myself clear. I will try again. I have a M700 Remington that is chambered for 330 Dakota. If I want to rebarrel to 404 Jeffrey are there any pitfalls that I should know about? It seems to me that since we have a long action, the bolt face is already properly modified, rails work with 330 cases that it should be a slam dunk. Any reloading tips would be appreciated too. I understand that 404 velocities can match 416 Rem. easily. I realise that the 404 Dakota might even be easier but in my experience the Mast brass often times gives non-uniform neck tension and therefore erratic accuracy. Easily obtainable Norma brass should do the trick. Any and all comments will be appreciated. | ||

Mark, I am having a M70 in .300RUM converted to .404 Jeffery. I was having the same thought w/ a different rifle. I'll let you know how it's going if you drop me a note. The Pac-Nor bbl. is on order & the stock will have to be modified a bit for me, but my riflesmith is very good & expects success. I have already got brass (NORMA), dies & bullets so I'm ready to go!
