gunslinger55African sporting creations elephant cartridge belt
I have one with elephant loops I got for Xmas. Has anyone ever tried to shove .505 Gibbs rounds in the loops? looks like I can stretch them out but looking to see if it will turn out OK. Don't want to ruin it. Talked to the owner Jim and he said he has never heard anyone do it, but that does not mean it hasn't been done.
Thanks

Lord Frithgunslinger,
You might try soaking one of the loops in water for a few minutes and then insert, with some effort, one of the Gibbs rounds. Allow the leather to dry, and check results. You may be surprised. Wetting the leather should not affect its integrity.
Luck,

Atkinsonstreatching leather loops will however effect the stitching..
Its much easier to buy one of the Nylon stretch belts, sew the bottom of the loops shut..The rounds are easy to pull out and won't lift the belt when you do pull on a round..I have seen some leather belts come to the arm pit when one is stressed!
I have pictures of one I made using two of the Nylon stretch belts sewed together..They are the best I have ever used, and the rounds won't work their way out as you run or whatever, and they are inexpensive to make. send me an email and I'll send you some pictures if your interested.

gunslinger55I am thinking it is not going to work. Better off calling murray and get a .505 specific one made

jeffeossoWhile spacing can be generous, the 505 is a beast unto itself .. unless one counts the 577/500 - which, when derimmed, well.. anyway about a cartridge wildcatter....

gunslinger55Yeah spacing of the loops has to be farther apart. If I am to take it hunting I surely need a nice belt with loops for the old girl........

AtkinsonLeather belts have a tendency to be too tight when new and you grab a round and the whole belt comes up under your armpit, then when it gets some age and broken in if you run the rounds climb out and fall on the ground..I see this happening all the time..the leather turns ammo green goopy in places like Tanzania when the humidity is right up there..then when you may have to wade armpit deep, oh well I could go on, been there done that..The best I have seen is the ones that are made in Zimbabwe from a thick canvas type material with leather and canvas loops..but I still like my Nylon belt, it works under all conditions, and conforms to my body without a years beak in perior, just not as pretty, but hey I don't think anybodys looking..

gunslinger55Problem solved. Got Murray leather belt with elastic loops and a belt slide. Wow nice stuff? May have mis judged my girth though seems a tad bit large

gunslinger55Just a heads up Murray adds 4" to whatever belt size you tell them. I wanted a 42" belt but they sent a 46". Miss communication. They are going to take care of it.

Idaho Sharpshootergunslinger55,
yeah, I say the same thing about this time every year, except the belts seem to have shrunk over the Holidays...
