Brett, Richie said he'd be chambering barrels this week. Since yours only needs chambering and threading to fit it on your Savage 110, you should either have it for the hunt, or after we come back. That way you can take it home with you. I'll load some different loads, including some cast bullets, so you can acclimatize yourself to the rifle. Brett, Welcome to the .395 Family. How long have you been backing up prof242, and how many times have you saved his bacon?

Macifej, Until you neck down the 2-bore to .395, this is how it stacks up so far: .395 Tatanka (40-07) has 129.4 grains of gross water capacity, actually measured, fireformed to 2.900" maximum length with Norma .416 Rigby brass. .398 Lapua Mag. will be about 10 grains less (117 to 120 ???), not measured yet. Maybe heavier brass and it is 0.176" shorter in length than the .395 Tatanka. The .395 GSC could be about 110.0 grains depending on the .375 H&H brass type used: blown out, necked up, and Ackley-ized. The .395 Ruger Max is going to be about 102.0 grains of water, but we have to wait for Max to actually measure that one before I do. The Ruger brass is pretty thick, well made. 400/.395 NE (10.03x74R) ... Max and I will get on that one too ... estimate:

Rip, Actually Max backs me up 99% of the time. He can drill a moving elk at 175 yards where I won't even try it. I did back him up once in Canada on a caribou hunt. He shot it, wouldn't go down, I shot it, and he shot it twice more. We were shooting 25-06s and our four shots could be covered by your palm at 175 yards, any one of which would have killed the bull. Now all I have to do is get a magnum boltface to Richie by Friday so that I can take my .395 on the elk hunt too. About to be .395 Family Member

prof242backup, 25-06, what? You won't have to shoot a caribou 5 times with a .395, nor an Elk! What are the dates of The Elk Hunt? To beat you two to blooding the .395 is maybe not realistic for me, but I may have to shoot a pig, sheep, or goat if I can't find a bison nearby. I am very proud and happy for anyone who kills something with that .395. Good work.

RIP, Hunt is Saturday for a week for us. Actual season is whole month of December. Yeah, .25-06's. We both had one and decided to try it. Now we use our 6.5 WSM's. Mirror-imaged rifles, mine a lefty, his a righty. Look identical except for that. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship
