Hi all, having my Rem XCR II in 375 H&H rechambered to 375 Weatherby. The rifle is pretty light (7 3/8 lb with scope unloaded), but it's recoil was very mild with 375 H&H loads so it should be fine. I should have it back in my hands in early May. Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I've got a Weatherby Euromark in 375 h&h that is just begging to be converted. If you don't mind me asking who is doing it for you and whats the cost? Thanks, Keith

.375 Weatherby is my all time FAVORITE!!! You will love it. Great cartridge, 300 grainers at 2,800. What's not to like?

Kevin Weaver of Weaver Rifles. He's got a great reputation and lucky for me is local. He's charging me $170 to rechamber from 375 H&H to 375 Weatherby, which I think is more than fair. http://www.weaverrifles.com/ Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I regret ever selling my 375 weatherby. Hopefully the 375 ruger I just got will satisfy. I don't think it'll be quite as fast as the weatherby but should be pretty close.

No sir, mine is a 26" barreled Rem 798 rechambered from .375 H&H to .375 Weatherby. I probably should have stated that, thanks for asking.

My rechambered (375 Wea) stainless classic Mod 70 gets +2800 FPS with factory fodder and it sports a 24" tube. EZ

eezridr, thats impressive. I see the factory spec is 2800 at muzzle but I thought that was from a 26" bbl.

Good move. My addiction to gunsmiths began in the mid 1980s in Alaska. First trip was to have an Interarms Mark X "Whitworth" Mauser converted from .375 H&H to .375 WBY. I should have stopped there. It is all I would ever really have needed, for anything on planet Earth. I forsook the 340 Wby MkV Fibermark of 1985 (McMillan stocked, first ever factory production rifle with a synthetic stock), for that .375 WBY, "Big Nan O'Mine." My 24" barrels give 2740 fps with Weatherby 300-grain Nosler partition loads. That is right in line with 2800 fps from a 26" barrel. If anybody is getting 2800 fps with a 24" barrel, they have an unusually fast rifle, and that may mean a tighter rifle that gives higher than max allowable SAAMI pressures. The .375 Wby is so cool that CIP specs it too. I can shoot .375 H&H ammo galore in any of the .375Wbys to good effect. My last .375 H&H featherweight Pre-64 M70 is being converted to a .395 H&H that should be just under 7 pounds dry (Brown Precision Pounder stock).

That Weatherby 300 Nosler PT ("2800 fps") clocked at 2936 fps in my 375 AI - 26.5" barrel - but, with ejector marks. AIU

I inherited a 375 WBY from my brother. The stock was a splinter, it was painful to shoot 375 H&H from it. It is being restocked as we speak. Unfortunately I don't think it will be done in time for this years trip, but I hope to take it next time.

Chuck, if you decide to go that route, I'd suggest going with the 375 H&H Ackley Improved. Cases are fire formed from 375 H&H and dies can be purchased from Redding. It's a touch larger by ~2 grs H20, and the case is basically the same as the 8mm Rem Mag and 416 Rem Mag but with a .375 bore and 40 degree shoulder. It can fire 375 H&H or 375 Weatherby with accuracy and retention of performance. Besides, if you lose your ammo in Africa, you'll always be able to find one or the other nearby. Also, ask your gunsmith to set your lans where you want them - I'm not into free bore, since I believe it effects accuracy and pressure. With the Weatherby you'll get a ton of freebore whether you like it or not, and it may not best for optimal performance. But, that's your taste. I'd also suggest a Lilja barrel with a heavier than normal sporting contour. I like mine finished at 26" and 0.82" diameter at the muzzle. You can pick what you like from Lilja. Also, while the gunsmith is at it, you might want to have other same contour barrels made to fit on the same action but with variations on the theme, such as 8 mm Rem Mag (fantastic elk rifle) or 416 Rem Mag (fantastic elephant gun). Then you just change them out depending upon your hunting needs - that is, screw one out, screw the other in and your good to go. They only need to be finger tight. Also, the heavier barrels are more accurate, help to absorb some of that MAGNUM kick, and steady your aim, especially when shooting off hand. Remember, there's a big .375" hole running down the center to reduce the weight. As I write this I'm having a system made, wherein the action will take 338 RUM, 375 AI, and 416 RUM barrels, depending upon my hunting needs and how I happen to feel that day. Warm regards, AIU

Thanks. I've already committed to the 375 Weatherby Magnum, but I know the 375 AI is a great round as well. I've got a 500 Jeffery for the bigger stuff, so I think I'm set there. The smallest bore rifle I have right now is the 375 Weatherby, since I handed down my favorite 270 to my youngest son. Best Regards to you too Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"
