I am having my .404 built on a 1909 mauser and I have bought a Lothar Walther barrel model #1450 and am having it cut to 23 1/2" to be the same as my cz 9.3x62 lux. Your project sounds great.

jeffe, I'm not sure on the weight, my 375's to light and my 416 rigby is to heavy (except when I pull the trigger) and I dont know what either weighs exactly. Was thinking in the 9.5 range without optics, but that might be a shade on the heavy side. I forgot to ask Chris what the barrel weighed, heck I can't remember if I told him 24 or 26, it was one of the two. I get so busy with my job I can't see straight. I better call him back on Friday.

I've always been a long barrel fan, most of my big bores have 24 to 26 inch barrels, mostly 26 inch... I am considering a very short 20 to 22 inch barrel on my 404 that I am building now, but I am hesitant as I have had a few carbine big bores and got rid of all of them...Just seems like I should have a shorty for some reason unbeknowns to me why that has come over me, one of those things that takes over the gun nuts being and transforms him into weird mood changes, kinda like a hunters menapause!

Ray, I woke up this morning with 22" in my head for the 404, but that is subject to rapid change as the day goes one, not sure what I can contribute that to.........
