Hey guys, hope this is right place for this, wasn't sure (is it really medium bore?, is this an american hunting question?) I HOPE to be able to get a few weekends in bear hunting this year. However, I don't have time to make it to the range. I could just carry my 308 Norma but really have a jones'n to carry my 375. But that means I need Lead Free ammo for it. anybody got feedback on what's available and they like? If it matters my rifle is a m70 safari express. Federal and Double Tap both look to be somewhat reasonable price. DT has a 235 g. which might be good for Ca blacks. Federal is only 300g (Midway) maybe overkill? but I'm not buying the winchester at 120 bucks, this is just a bandaid till I have time to load. Thanks guys. Red

I've only killed 3 black bears (DIY, spot 'n stalk) and I have not found them difficult to kill. Two were one shot kills with pistols. As for lead free ammo, I've used TSX bullets on two trips to Africa. The first trip I shot 300 gr TSX bullets from my .375 RUM for one shot kills on buffalo and a variety of PG down to bushbuck. On my second trip I shot 270 gr TSX bullets in my RUM at PG from steenbok to eland. The results were huge holes in the smallest animals, over penetration in the medium size animals but pretty much instant kills, and the bullets actually stayed inside several of the larger animals like buffalo, eland, and kudu. The reports that I've seen on the Hornady GMX's is that they open about the same as TSX's. NRA Endowment Life Member

Hey Red, Kali bear with a monometal .375 caliber…If Barnes offered a 250gr .375 TSX I’d say go with it. As they don’t list it…the 270gr TSX will do the job very nicely and very likely the 235gr TSX would work as well. Good hunting! Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

Sorry to hear you are stuck in the yellow zone. You are only a couple hours too far south. Up here we are hearing rumors of adding my favorite hunting areas and re-introducing the condor. I have been trying to warn everyone but most people claim they will ignore the ban anyway. That may be a lot of Bravado until a few serious fines are imposed. While down in Ventura I had to buy a bunch of the Federal lead free while hunting Yotes last year but I have loaded for all my varmint calibers and am ready to go back down shortly. Good luck, Frank

I've used the 300 grain TSX for everything in my 375 H&H. I'm going to use it for pig this winter.
