| I bought some Speer 235gr and they did not prove to be very accurate in my 375. Well, nothing shot really well, but the 235's were the worst. |

| The far right is the 235 gn Speer. They performed just fine out of my Mauser on everything from Jackal to Zebra. Also out of a 14" bbl. .375 JDJ Contender on game up to Kudu-size. I didn't find the precision to be an issue when I was working up a load for them from either gun. That was a long time ago and bullet choice less than 270 gns was pretty limited. Over time, that particular bullet seems to have acquired a shady reputation for terminal performance. I have one that fully penetrated a Zebra from side to side on a 125 yd shot. The bullet was recovered from just under the skin..it was actually pushing out the hide noticebly on the opposite side from the entry wound, but had not exited. It is one of the most perfect, "classic mushrooms" I've ever recovered. At the time, I considered sending a picture to Speer for advertising..!! That said, there have been a couple of times when it appeared that it might have "blown up" on an animal. I'm not a terminal ballistics expert, and have only my own experience to share so I can't offer much more than my personal observations which are based on examination of dead animals. Never shot and lost anything with that bullet. I suspect that were I getting ready for another hunt with either of my .375's...I'd look at newer offerings in the 250gn and down size range. |
