I have fired .458win-500gn of the bench from a bare unscoped factoryM70safari. I simply dont appreciate the way it rattled me. having said that, the rifle was not that heavy for calibre, and it was off the bench, with probably a crap factory recoil pad and less than ideal stock geometry. It was an old push feed version. What I would like to know is, how does a proper weight (10.5lb?)458Lott-500gn/2300, with good stock, pad and efficient muzzle brake feel? "Answer" claim they bring a 460WM(12lb) to 338win 416rem(10lb) to 30/06 378WM(9lb) to 30/06,300mag levels. http://www.answerrifles.com/main%20chart%20only.htm Another company,BP-Tec has some footage: http://www.bp-tec.com/view_clips.htm The thought of carrying a 9lb Rifle & drilling a BullMoose,or Eland at 300yds with a .375hh- 265GscHV bc.525,Mv2800+.. 300yd:2450/3490....... .378WM- 300GScHV bc.542,Mv3000+.. 300yd:?...I wonder........ .416rem-330GScHV bc.545,Mv2700+.. 300yd: 2350/4050 . .......... . ......... .416WM- 330GscHV bc.545,Mv3000/6150e+.. 300yd:? 2620/5020 ... .458Lott-400GscHV bc.??? For those who have a good muzzlebraked bigbore,do you feel that these muzzle brake claims are true?

I have a Win 70 safari express in 416 rem mag with a muzle breal and a Knoxx recoil sys. With the break removed and just the Knoxx it kicks like a 30-06. With the knoxx and the break it feals like a 243 win. I pratice with both I will hunt with just the Knoxx. Unless i switch to a BP tec Break which does not increase the noise then I will hunt with both. Dr B

I have an unbraked CZ550 Safari Magnum in .458 Lott. I routinely shoot it off the bench with only it's nice soft, cushy recoil pad to protect me. It's really fairly comfortable.

Although I am not a big fan of brakes,I live about 40 minutes from Answer Products and have a friend who used to work for them. I have fired many rifles with their brakes, and their claims are valid. Their brakes reduce felt recoil by 50-60%. The nicest thing is that these brakes are the same diameter and contour as the original barrel, seem no louder than without the brake, and the brake can be removed for hunting. Geronimo

Stupid Question 101. If no louder, why remove brake for hunting? "shoot quick but take your time"

Muzzel Brake 101- The MORE gas pressure the better it will work! Yes, a 45-50% reduction in felt recoil is possible. Get a F990 recoil pad, a mercury recoil reducer in the stock and a good muzzel brake and your Lott should be quite controllable off the bench. Who cares how loud it is in the field?-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Hi Woodjack: I shoot a 300 Rum, 375 H&H, 458 Win Mag, 416 Rem Mag, and a custom 458 Lott, muzzle break, and two mercury tubes in the stock, it is 12 pounds. First, the 300 RUM, kicked like a SOB, Muzzle break cured that easy. The 375 came with a break, kicks like a 308. The 458 Winnie, Ruger no break, does not kick bad at all. The 416 Rem Mag, muzzle break, second hardest kicking rifle, but no wear near the recoil of the Lott with 500 grain bullets at 2350 FPS. Even with the break, two mercury recoil tubes, big recoil pad, 12 lbs of rifle, it kicks like a MULE... It is my personal limit... The Lott is my Limit, no more than this for this boy... Regards..
