the best thing you could do is put a nice silvers or packmyer decelarator pad on it it will take some of the bite outta the rifle. i left it as is i didnt find the recoil to be that sever in the first place.

I should have said that I just had surgery and have not fired it. I fired Hog Killer's 458 pre op and found it fun, I have been told the #1 kicks more, alot more, so was asking around. I may and should try it as is before spending the money. THANKS

If I were you, I'd pass on shooting a #1 as it is and in your condition. The #1 is a bit light to handle the 458 Lott recoil and needs a bit of weight installed along a very good recoil pad. If you are adventuresome, then go ahead and get the #1 and do the necessary tweaks to make the recoil bearable.

I have a #1 conversion in 470 NE and it isn't bad with 500 grains at 2300 fps. I had a mercury tube installed in the butt, and a Kick-eeze pad put on it. Also, the Pachmayr Decelerators are good.

Out of curiosity, what was your final weight with the #1 after the conversion and tweaks? Cool Cool Smiler Smiler

That is 11# 8 oz. with a Swarovski 1.5-6 scope and rings. I haven't used it without the scope.

My .458 Win Mag #1 is totally stock and I don't really find the recoil that bad with 500gr at 2100fps - no worse than an 870 12ga shotgun. Now I have heard the Lott is more noticable in recoil, but have not fired one myself. Much depends on the individual's tolerance for it I suppose. With your shoulder injury that makes it more complex, so just be careful with it and see what works for you. Don't forget you can tone that Lott load down a tad in velocity to make it more comfortable.

I've got a #1 in .458 and I installed a mercury tube and Limbsaver on it. Works dandy. You can do it yourself. The 5/8 16 oz. tube fits right in the stock
