I have a delightful Ruger RSM in 375 H & H, which had a 1.5-5 Lp VX3, but felt I wanted a little more umph for my aging eyes. I bought a Leup VX 3 2.5-8. The clearance between rings didn't allow mounting. So I bought ($ 70) Ruger single offset rings. Go to mount them and the scope and the rings are keyed on way with halfmoon inserts and front to back heights are different. Actually the opposite of what I wanted to accomplish. So now I have pissed away $ 70 and don't know what the solution is.

Does Leupold or some other supplier have rings for Ruger which would accomodate my situation?

I went through this with the Trijicon accupoint and actually had a very good gunsmith drill traditional scope mounts so that I could eventually mount the scope. it also gave me greater flexibility but you do have to drill.....

I used 30mm Leupold rings to mount an LPS 1.5-6. I believe I used the low rings which allowed about 1/16" clearance between the bell and quarter rib. I had a similar delema as you and just took my rifle and scope to Gander Mountain. They were gracious enough to let me plunder through several packages of rings to find the right ones.

MJ,

I have an RSM .375, same scope and rings. That set-up worked fine. As I recall the setback ring must be mounted in front.

Normal rings would not work because the available length to clamp to on the scope was too short.

Have you tried it with the offset ring in front??

Best regards;
Brett

I think what MJ is saying is that the distance between the rings won't let the scope mount due to interference with the power ring and the front bell. It is not a scope clearance problem due to height, as the rings that come with the RSM are pretty high.

He is correct that you can't swap the rings front to back on an M77, since the heights are different for the two rings. Ruger rings are not configured like generic rings. The rings themselves adjust for the difference in action bridge height. Only the No 1 has same height rings. All others are unique front to back. With normal extension rings you can mix and match front to back and either increase or decrease the ring spacing. With a model 77, you will need to find a set of rings made specifically for this purpose.

A set of adapter bases such as Warne and others will work, since you can then mix and match their standard rings. The downside is that these sometimes tend to make the scope set higher.

The solution is to buy a Blaser R 93 in 375. Big Grin

Art S; You are absolutely correct in every aspect.

NE 450 No 2; You may be right, but this rifle is sweet. I think when I get to your ripe old age (he-he-he), I may have to do the same thing.

I am going to a gunsmith tomorrow and have a half moon detent milled in the base to accept the rear ring in reverse order.

Again, the Ruger offset rings work with this scope. Would you like me to post a pitcure of my RSM, Ruger Rings and Leupold 2.5X8??

I looked at that and as I was tighting the rings I noticed a gap on the rear side underneath the scope. I took it apart and realized the rear and front base heights are not the same. The rear base is lower and consequently the rear ring is higher than the front to compensate, which exaserbates the problem if you install it on the front. If you use the offset ring in the front, you will definitely bend the scope.

If you get it cranked down hard enough, it may appear you had the job done, but may have seriously damaged your scope.

Mighty Joe, Take your rifle and scope out to Gene Sears supply in El Reno. They have a pretty good selection of Leupold Ruger rings, I was there 2 days ago looking at them. If you talk nice they will probably let you open the package to make sure they fit with your scope. Their prices are also as good or better than anyone else in our area. Good Luck...........DJ
