General Lemay,
Sir, I thought you were dead? Anyway, you bet I will hunt with the BRNO. It was made for hunting. The Ruger was made for long range target work. That McGowen barreled Ruger shoots 705 grain Harlows into 0.170" for 3 shots at 100 yards. [Big Grin]

Wow, some wicked looking weapons, Daggaron. For sure you are tougher than me to wanna do any target shooting with either one of these guns. I don't think I would fire them off a bench on a dare. [Eek!]

Ron,

Awesome looking beasts you got there! I hope to have a similar setup as your 602 one of these days. Thanks!

KMule,
Here is the link for Gun Tailor.

Ron,

Great rifles. Whats the overall length of the Ruger with the brake on? Looks and sounds like a top notch varmint rig. [Big Grin]

Ron,

Did you have the fore-end free floated? Can you slide a piece of paper thru it until it hits the hanger? It would be nice to have some close up views of these two monsters. Thanks.

Pecos45,
My fellow troll hunter, you would love it with the 14 pound Ruger from a sit with the tall Harris (made in Kentucky) bipod. See the squishy Pachmayr slipon over the Ruger pad? See the flush muzzle brake that works? See the scope that is mounted forward enough to not hit your forehead if you do your part? Piece of cake. [Big Grin]

PC,
The term for the original BRNO safety is "bassackward." My PME safety is still a little stiff and needs some touching up on the midposition detent, but I will get around to it.

KMuleinAk,
The 510 JAB BRNO is from a reamer made by Dave Manson. It is basically a 500 A2 with a 30 degree shoulder instead of 35 degree [Wink] and a throat that has only 0.300" freebore instead of 0.400" freebore on the standard 500 A2.
[Wink] The 510 JAB Ruger is a 500 A2 with the throat extended to 0.588" of freebore, to handle the 750 grain Hornady A-Max bullet seated out to 4.760" COL.

In the past year Kevin Jenkins has gone from self employed gunsmith to being partner in a company that owns Black Mamba, making high dollar accuracy rifles. This company also makes the Powell River Laboratories tungsten core bullets and loaded ammo that the US Secret Service, among other agencies, use in their sniper rifles. He moved from Murfreesboro, TN to Oak Ridge, TN and back to the Nashville, TN area. He commutes to work in Clarksville, TN now but keeps his shop equipment at home that includes the machinery to do about anything.

Kevin is also the gunsmith doing the tip of the week on the TV show, "Secrets of the Hunt" hosted by Dave Watson.

Kevin is not doing anything with his website lately, but might do a 510 JAB, his namesake cartridge and mine. BMG was having a CZ 550 turned into one, but changed his mind after he bought the 577 T.rex. Last I heard, BMG decided to have a Ruger No.1 turned into a 510 JAB instead.

I have left the Dave Manson 510 JAB and standard 500 A2 reamers with Kevin. He also has my Dave Manson .510 caliber throating reamer. So ... you can have Any Throat You Want. If anybody is interested in his services, try emailing him or I can relay a message by telephone if you have any trouble getting a response. He is a busy guy, father and husband, etc. You may email me.

Mingo,
Thanks for posting the web site. Are you planning on doing the 510 Rigby/Gibbs like this? I hear you have got McMillan making BBK-01 stocks. That is a good thing. The BBK-01 and -02 are different from the CZ 550 enough that the BRNO stock they have will not work, though it will work on the CZ 550 Magnum with barrel channel and trigger well modifications. Cheers!

KBGuns,
Thanks. The BRNO and the Ruger overall lengths are the same, with and without brakes: 44" without and 46" with brake. The Ruger No.1 with brake has a 29" tube, but is equivalent to a bolt action with about a 25" tube. The Ruger brake is slimline 1.000" diameter. The BRNO brake is a bulky oversized 1.250" diameter but adds only 2" when screwed onto the 23" barreled BRNO. The photo above is with the thread protector on the BRNO, and brake on the Ruger.

Gen. Lemay,
I will blood the JAB on Bison bison, or any other big game or varmint, until I get back to Africa. It is definitely a buffalo rifle.
[Big Grin]

Thanks, y'all.

Ming,
The Ruger barrel is free floated. Closeups are beyond my current capabilities. I am a minimalist on camera equipment. Spend too much on guns! [Big Grin]

Ron Berry,

Nice plastic stocked rifle and a bull barreled No 1. I shall spare you the statements about the beauty of these rifles, that you and your cronies have bestowed upon other posters rifles. Unfortunately, you have provided no proof of caliber with these pics. These could be a 375 H&H magnums and a 22-250 for all we know.

Why not show us some cartridges with a measuring instrument documenting the size of the bullet. Oh yes, we would like to see these 500 JAB cartridges inserted into the bore of the rifles for further proof. You can use the same approach that Robgunbuilder used.

I would give both of Todd E/500 AHR's kidneys for that gun.

By the way TEGGY/TODD/500 etc, weren't you about to leave...AGAIN.

Talk about your Shakespearean goodbys! [Eek!]
