I realize this is probably a stupid question, But is the 500A2 and the 500 A Square one and the same? I am starting to order pieces to retrofit my zkk 602 and don't want to make a stupid mistake. I plan to us the 570gX at 2200fps. Is there a better load I should know about? This is my first real crusher so any help would be appreciated.

They are the same and I think you have a good plan.

Xman, Do a search for any of these, on this site. 500 a2, 505 gibbs, 500 jeffe, 510 JAB, 470 mbogo. You'll see tons of pictures, recieve good and bad advice, and might even get a chuckle or two at a troll's expensice. jeffe

So what's a 510 Peacekeeper? - Dan

510 Peacekeeper is the 460 Weatherby case opened up to accept the .510" bullets usually used for the 50 BMG cartridge - the 650-750 grain boat-tailed spitzers. Because of the bullets, the OAL of the 50 Peacekeeper is much longer than the 500 A2 and the reamer throating of the barrel is longer.

x-man, All these cartridges are simply 460 Weatherby cases necked up to .510 bullets. Actually, there is nothing special or secret about the 50 Peacekeeper (other than hyperbole and hoopla marketing ploys) that a stock 500 A2 won't do. Ditto my 510 JAB which is a 500 A2 with a 30 degree shoulder and a .300" freebore. The standard 500 A2 has a 35 degree shoulder and .400" freebore in the Pacific Precision Grinding reamer and the Clymer reamer specs. I have a 500 A2 on a Ruger No.1 with throat lengthened to a freebore of 0.588". That is only because my initial handloads for dummies and fireforming were ecentric, bad runout. The final 510 JAB reamer was made off of fireformed brass by Dave Manson. The tiny shoulder difference in angle is insignificant for such a minimal shoulder on the belted case. If you have no significant runout in your ammo, the standard 500 A2 chamber will handle just about anything you could use, and so will my "deep throated" 500 A2 and my .510 JAB. My 510 JAB was done on the old BRNO ZKK 602 action with Wisner/PME safety and sights, a McGowen stainless barrel (1:10" twist) and a McMillan stock. All my other rifles are just toys, compared to it. You have made a good choice for action. I might engrave the other side of my barrel "500 A-Square" if I ever get some properly headstamped brass. Until then, the barrel on my 602 in ".510 JAB" is engraved: ".510/460 Weatherby Improved Jenkins And Berry" and I use 460 Weatherby brass by Norma. The .510 JAB delivers a good jab on both ends.

Dave. I'm originally from Powell River. We used to race our hotrods thru Sechelt to catch the ferrys. Small world! Now based out of Victoria. Nice rifles Dave! Is the 470 Mbogo your creation? It's a very well thought out package. Sounds like I should be talking to your smith. How do I get in touch with him? Jamie.

DaggaRon. How do you jeep the wieght of the gun high enough with the McMillan stock? McMillan says that the stock is good for a #5 contour. Unless I miss my guess my gun will come in too light with this combo. I am unsure on how to procede, but this would be my stock of choice. Jamie

x-man, My rifle is 10#10oz. bare/empty/iron-sighted. The barrel is 23" long and is a straight taper down to 0.875" at the muzzle. The McMillan stock was made to fit by scraping and sanding the barrel channel and glass/steel bedding the barrel with a hidden crossbolt for the barrel lug. Threaded steel tubing was installed as pillars for the action. The primary recoil lug is steel bedded with hidden crossbolt too. Maybe not necessary with a McMillan. If you want to add weight, McMillan can make a heavier stock with more solid fiberglass and no lightening fillers. Custom order. Here is the pic of the rifle ... my poor photography again ...
