shootawayQuestion on the Win.458WM Safari Express
Does this rifle come with a one piece trigger guard assembly that includes an integral magazine box or is the magazine box separate from the trigger guard assembly?

ColoradoMattThe box is separate. I believe Duane Wiebe sells a box that will get you an extra round.

shootawayIf the box is separate Winchester should not list it as a "one piece bottom metal".

ColoradoMattThe trigger guard to the front tang is one piece., as opposed to two piece, which, I believe, most model 70's were until they started production in South Carolina. That seems to be their reasoning for putting it that way. Mauser and model 70 minutiae can differ.

CougarzThe new model 70's are one piece bottom metal with a separate box like CM said. The one piece also eliminates the sometimes troublesome third action screw.

AFRICAN LEADWOODI guess the mag box is the middle metal. I have both versions of Mod 70. I don't really consider the one patricularly beneficial over the other. And I'd still buy that 458...

AtkinsonThe bottom metal is one piece, the magazine box is separate, I suspect that could be remedies with two spots of weld or glass on each side of the box..might need a tad of inletting to put it back in the wood, but not likely but Im not sure about that.

its a one piece bottom, george.. not 2, as other choice or the ruger. it's one piece, from front to rear screw, without the alignment/tightening issue you can have otherwise -
that YOU consider the mag to be more than 1 piece,,,, well, heck, son, about the one "one piece" bottom metal, in your estimation, could be the 1903 --- as even military mausers have about 10 pieces in the bottom metal....
sometimes experience counts more than edumacashuon

shootawayI don't consider the two piece Ruger garbage to be called bottom metal at all.The way I see it you either have a one piece bottom metal with an integral mag box or a two piece bottom metal with a sheet metal mag box.The Winchester is case two.
