How do you transport your big bore reloads? Login/Join

I understand that some African countries and airlines are cracking down the requirement that ammo be transported in factory boxes. No problem for most, but what about those of us who reload either wildcat, obsolete, or hard to find calibers like the 404?

What are you transporting your ammo in?

A friend of mine who has been to Africa three times made his own "factory boxes". He used some MTM slip top boxes and printed his own self stick lables on his computer. On the labes he listed the caliber and general load dated
( ie. .416 Rem. 400 gr. Swift A-frame, 2400 fps)
, put a .25" thick piece of foam over the primers before he sealed it shut and called it good. He has had no problems on any of his three trips with this method.

I use MTM H50 cases. I make labels with the computer and put foam in the lid. I pack them with primers down.

I do the same as those who have already replied except I steal factory logos from Remington or whoever's web-sites, print them on a color printer, and manipulate them to look like ammunition labels before sticking them on to the MTM boxes.

MTM boxes are very good products to store your ammo safely IMHO

Actually,
Factory boxes would be counter to the US customss (and duplicate/recipricated worldwide) regulations on Ammo. It must be in a seperate lock container.

The issue is HEADSTAMP, not pasteboard boxes, that they could be cracking down on. The cases must match the rifle(s), as that's the actualy international reg.

I am having a nice chuckle at the thought of someone throwing in 3 boxes of rem. green box in a bag, and trying to leave an airport.

I always just throw my ammunition in my checked luggage. I've carried it in factory boxes, plastic boxes, and in a zip-lock bag (which I know isn't ok these days). Never had any problems, and I don't expect to. I've never heard anything about having to have ammunition in a locked container. I hope it doesn't come to that.
